Ow...ankle (good thoughts / prayers request)
Hi, happy-astro-group!

I hurt my ankle at work last week...the same day, they told me no one had been doing my old job for a while and "could I help" (they moved me to a new position recently) This, while I am helping cover for a woman on maternity leave and her recently fired underling. Morons...So, I have against my better judgement been hobbling around work for a week while training someone new to take over my old position and doing two people's work at the same time...yeah.

Feh, management here aren't really scum, just clueless in communicating with each other; reactive vs. proactive thinkers. Proactive thinkers get new hires in faster...yeah....

It got pretty bad last night. Very painful even when stationery. I'm up to taking 3 Advil or so every three hours. Today they are paying me to go to the doctor "under the table" (cuz they don't want a worker's comp claim, yeeeeaaaah)

I am currently at lunch. Coworker had to leave and we are so shorthanded I am delaying treatment...again...until this evening, where I have a doctor's appt.

Anyways, I can use all the help I can get, so I humbly ask for some good thoughts/healing vibes for my left ankle. Maybe throw in some "clarity and common sense for moronic management" vibes too, lol. Or even "happy shiny better job opportunity where it's cool to sit and rest my foot..."

Anyway, thanks! I will be sure to update everyone.

1. wow . sorry to hear that
What happened to it? You know ice and elevation are good things? And of course try to give it rest. I actually sprained my right foot yesterday. No fun to not have the mobility. Hope you are feeling better very soon.

3. Just twisted it on the stairs
...have been trying above, but problems still persist. Maybe it's more serious. I bet they will just give me a walking cast so they can be assured it's immobile. Could be some kind of muscle/tendon issue too, who knows.

Thanks for your thoughts!

5. you really need to be careful with that..
a friend did the same thing I did and did have tendon tears. It's strange, but we didn't realize our foot was asleep until we got up to move, and then fell down. Months later she is still battling the damage. I hope she is able to recover at some point. When she got hurt, she never slowed down one bit, just kept on pushing. Not a good idea. I had to reschedule the rest of the week, and had a lot of things planned. But I know that if the injury isn't given some rest, it will not heal. Much better to bite the bullet now for a brief time than risk long term trouble.

16. Trying to take it easy
Now I have a Naproxen script, a good, sturdy brace, and light duty at work. I probably did over-do it though. I need to remember it's not the end of the world if I can't do everything myself for a while...hubby learned to do the laundry at least :)

Sucks that it could take months. I guess I'm meant to learn a lesson here about how I should let others help me. Also sort of concerned about dropping the exercise routine...maybe I should find some upper body stuff to keep occupied...

Thanks for the advice!

6. Weird - I BADLY sprained my left ankle when I fell downstairs at work.
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 07:10 PM by suziedemocrat
Sprain sounds like nothing, but it was HORRIBLE. (If that muscle completely tears in two - it is still considered a sprain.) It was the same day Karen Bishop said we might have accidents - May 3rd. I didn't walk on it for almost a month. It WAS Workman's comp. and my contracting company paid the claim, but at the client site - an INSURANCE company - they treated me like dirt! Like I was milking it or something. It made me realize how distrustful they were about everything. (All Republicans I might add!) I really don't like taking pain medication, so if it hurt to put weight on it, I stayed off my foot rather than take pain medication. They thought this was terrible at work since they all take medication like crazy. I try not to take even cold medication if I can help it. Just one more thing about me that didn't fit in there.

But now my ankle is better and I have a new job! I think the way I was treated with the ankle was the last straw and really motivated me to find another job, which was VERY difficult. So, looking back, I'm almost glad it happened, or I might still be working with those people. Now I'm working in an environment where I feel much more at home.

Good luck to you - I've been there and it ain't fun!!!

7. Oooh, ouchie. Lots of healing vibes coming your way...uh, some advice?
Cool it on the Advil. Especially three every few hours. If you can't manage to do that, taper off as fast as you can and then hook yourself up with a good detox agent after this is all over (Altiva's cornsilk tea is my favorite). Also--consider switching to Aleve. Naproxen is much gentler on the kidneys/liver.

12. I got a script for Naproxen
...and am taking it today. Feels better, but I'm sort of...floaty. Doc's opinion is that the tendon is out of whack. I went and got a better brace vs. the Ace bandage.

Thanks BlueIris!

8. it's risky to delay treating a sprain
An untreated ankle sprain can weaken the ankle, which can make you vulnerable to a repeat performance. Truly, get it looked at immediately. I can't help but wonder if your sacrifice will earn you equivalent consideration from your colleagues and employer.

In the meantime, I ask for healing of your ankle and your soul from this accident. May they both injuries be filled with heart's love. And so it is.

13. Who knows
I guess I need to be more assertive about taking care of myself next time...if the work is so behind anyway, what's me missing an afternoon to see the doc going to change?

This place is just so medium-small it's hard to trust them to get anything done, esp. since they practically dumped my old job on me again after a month.

Oddly there is a rash of injuries here at work...my ankle and another's ankle, VP's sciatic nerve, president's knee which needed surgery, the sales guy's wrist, a gentleman in the warehouse had a stroke, a lady downstairs had an odd outer ear infection...this for a company of about 50 people. Maybe our environment is trying to tell us something *shrug*

Thanks for the thoughts!

9. I'm so sorry for your pain, BluePatriot.
I'm so mad at your employer for making you treat yourself like this and not wanting to have a worker's compensation claim. They're not taking care of you.

I send you light and healing energy to help you to get through this time, and I hope that you either find a company that takes better care of you as a person or your current company realizes the error of its ways.

14. Yeah...
...man, I even have the benefit of nepotism here (Mom is a manager) so I hate to think what would happen to someone else. I explained in the reply to Crowdance about everyone getting hurt around here so that probably has more to do with it than anything devious. It's still disappointing.

Thanks for the thoughts!

light to you on that...sounds like the anke says you should let the managers struggle this one out by themselves!
Best of luck.

15. Haha
...I am just amused as to what would have happened if I quit...somehow the utter chaos makes me happy in a told-you-so-many-times-you-dummies way.

Thanks for the thoughts!

18. Update
I feel a lot better...some rest over the weekend and I feel almost normal again. Still wearing the brace, though.

My employer chose to give me a $500 bonus along with my normal check for working hard throughout the situation (1/3 of which was eaten up by taxes, but hey...cool)

Again, thanks for everyone's kind thoughts! I think they made a difference :)
