What a difference a smudging makes.
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 03:26 AM by BlueIris
It probably has more to do with the absence of my roommates than anything else, but I got to open up most of the doors and windows in my house tonight and just smudge, smudge, smudge. Light sage, then sweetgrass. I cannot believe how much nicer things are in here. Haven't seen this much improvement in the air here since the last time I smudged just right around the time of a full moon. This is so much better.

Oh, and here's a question I thought of after recently being told something about sage by a bookstore owner that I'd never heard before. Is it true that after you burn sage, cedar or another cleansing item in a space that you're better off if you then burn something else to bring in good spirits, entities or fotune? The bookstore guy told me that from what he's observed, the cleansing effected by the sage can be great at taking away the negativity in an area, but then also creates a void, which it's better if people fill up with goodness as fast as possible. For those here who smudge, do you then burn other things immediately afterward? I have to post that I think this saging has has a distinctly more positive effect on the space I just cleaned out because I followed it up with something to bring goodness into the cleansed space.

1. I was taught something similar
I usually burn them together. I think you can even buy them bundled together.

2. I was told to put sea salt around the house too.
But, I am still a smudging novice. I would love to know more-didn't know about the sweet grass.

3. The Lakota tradition...
is that sage drives out the bad, and sweetgrass invites in the good. I burn them both together myself. I also like the way sage smells like pot.

4. I do intentionally invite good entities to come in afterward
I smudge and/or do the sea salt/powdered iron thing at windows and doors, spiraling the bad up and out from basement to attic (talking entire house here of course) then, when the ickies are gone, stand in the heart of the home and beam white light as an invitation for any benevolent entities to come in. Oh--and raise dragons around the house to protect it.

6. I used sea salt in water
in a spray bottle once when I was packing and there was so much blocked energy from storage, I could hardly breathe. I don't recommend that method. All my stuff got sticky. Took me awhile to figure out where that had come from.
