September 2006 - Light and Prayer Thread

Give us hearts to understand;
Never to take from creation's beauty more than we give;
never to destroy wantonly for the furtherance of greed;
Never to deny to give our hands for the building of earth's beauty;
never to take from her what we cannot use.

Give us hearts to understand
That to destroy earth's music is to create confusion;
that to wreck her appearance is to blind us to beauty;
That to callously pollute her fragrance is to make a house of stench;
that as we care for her she will care for us.

We have forgotten who we are.
We have sought only our own security.
We have exploited simply for our own ends.
We have distorted our knowledge.
We have abused our power.

Great Spirit, whose dry lands thirst,
Help us to find the way to refresh your lands.

Great Spirit, whose waters are choked with debris and pollution,
help us to find the way to cleanse your waters.

Great Spirit, whose beautiful earth grows ugly with misuse,
help us to find the way to restore beauty to your handiwork.

Great Spirit, whose creatures are being destroyed,
help us to find a way to replenish them.

Great Spirit, whose gifts to us are being lost in selfishness and corruption,
help us to find the way to restore our humanity.

Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,
whose breath gives life to the world, hear me;

I need your strength and wisdom.
May I walk in Beauty.

I chose this prayer because I think, in addition to the literal interpretation of it being a prayer for our Mother Earth; it can also be seen as a prayer for each of us, many of whom are on the path toward our own internal cleansing, healing and rejuvenation.

Peace, Love, Hope and Healing to All ... O8)

18. Pray For Mike And Kathy Malloy
I am not sure why he got fired but whatever the reason he and his family need prayer. Also there is sadness and outrage and we could all use some calming here at DU for all the frustration because we liberals seem to get a bunch empty promises in exchange for living our principals and speaking out.

I know standing up for right has always left people out in the cold while the greedy, the powerful, the cruel, the thoughtless stay inside all warm and well fed, but it sucks. It just sucks. So in order to keep up the good fight like Mike always has, he needs our prayers and we all need strength to keep on going.

At least I do ;(;(;(

21. Those Americans labled "obese" by our society need prayer more than ever.
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 03:46 AM by BlueIris
The heaping pile of abuse, hostility and judgment lumped on those with weight issues is more horrifying than I've ever seen it. I've heard there's even astrological evidence for this trend in our society's history, that's how significant it is. I feel so bad for anyone who must struggle with issues of weight, health and appearance, while also having to deal with disturbing social stigmas as well.

22. Amen !
It appalls me to see our children being sedated with meds, fed chemically altered fast "food", then left in front of a computer or X-box to occupy themselves so they don't "disturb" their parents ... to see phy ed and intramural sports cut from school budgets ... to see ads for "super duper extra whopper size your meal for 49 cents" ... and then have society deride people for being 'fat'.

I've battled my weight and my self-image since I was about 12. And looking back at photos, I was never really what one would call 'fat'... chubby as an adolescent, yeah ... enough to never get picked for teams in gym class ... But I thought I was HUGE. I hated myself. The summer I turned 15, I limited myself to a 600 calorie/day diet and rode a stationery bike TWO HOURS EVERY NIGHT until I lost 35 lbs. I would literally get up in the middle of the night and do sit up's because I felt guilty for not exercising enough during the day.

It's been a see-saw all of my adult life, but when I started closing in on 40 a couple years ago, I decided it was time to make peace with myself and my genetics (German/Czech Ooomm pah pah !!). Now I walk HippieDog Hank and Ray La Beagle about 4 miles a day, stay away from fast food, and have generally shunned the consumerist culture of self-hate ("You're ugly. Buy some beauty").

I have enormous sympathy for those who are bombarded every day - from every angle - about their appearance and what's wrong with it, and how it's "their fault". May they come to love and accept themselves for who they are and the gifts they bring to this world.

31. My sister, who is very tall and slender, deals with it from the
opposite spectrum, but people still think it's okay to ridicule her and make fun of her for looking as she does, just as they feel it's okay to do the same to those who weigh more than the "ideal." I know that people don't usually think of tall (or even short) slender people as objects of derision, but believe me, they are. How sad.

Being a person who is considered slender myself, I am still not infrequently the object of inappropriate remarks. I know how hurtful being accused of suffering from anorexia/bulemia can be when you are not so much "naturally thin," but thin because your metabolism is high, you don't eat meat, drink alcohol or need to use many prescription drugs, and you don't have the kind of lifestyle that exacerbates stress hormones. I was offering up the prayer for the persecuted "fat" people because it appears to me that the veritable nation-wide campaign against them has kicked into overdrive, which, no matter how stigmatized I feel sometimes, is a problem that appears more in need of positive energy to me than whatever the slender among us are dealing with. But what the hey, prayers for the thin-and-tired-of-being-sniped-at folks, too.

25. I would greatly appreciate some light and prayers.
My income has taken a tumble over the last 6 months or so, as my caseload has shrunk. I get paid by the billable hour, so when my caseload goes down, so does my income. It's picking up, which is good, but rather slowly, so things are still really tight. I could use prayers for abundance.

More especially, though, I could use prayers for focus and concentration and energy. I'm coming out of a burn-out period and not up to my normal work pace, which I know is the main contributor to my lower caseload and lower income.

Any and all light and prayers are greatly appreciated.

And hippiechick, thank you for the very beautiful poem. It is very soothing, and also, very hopeful. :hug:

26. I will send you light and energy, SeattleGirl. I also ask that the...
Universe help you to get back to peak performance so that you are able to manifest the abundance that you desire into your life. (This or something better for the highest good of all involved.)

Also, cassiepriam told us about an abundance prayer/decree from the Ascended Masters which a psychic friend gave to her that might be useful for your purposes. She said that it should be said 3 times in the morning, 3 times at noon and 3 times before bed. (Also anytime you feel negative.) It's supposed to unblock psychic and karmic blocks to success and abundance. She said that you should also be careful to avoid any negative thought and that we must remember that our thoughts, intentions, feelings and behavior become our karma. The decree is as follows:

I AM abundance, financial freedom and personal happiness. Now make manifest and sustain with grace.

:hug:

33. Could someone please try to communicate with my old, incotinent dog?
Edited on Fri Sep-01-06 05:33 PM by BlueIris
Just politely try to get him to go outside. He is an old Australian shepherd named B. I have asked my spirit guides to assist me with this because my attempts to communicate to him that he should go outside have not yielded much. (I think he's afraid that if he goes out, I won't let him back in, or if he goes out, he will be taken to that Big Veterinarian in the Sky, if you know what I mean.) So far--nothing. Maybe guides don't talk to dogs? I'm already in for a weekend of carpet cleaning because I can't manuever him to go outside into the front or backyard, so...anything the prayer thread can do would be appreciated.

is he going into the yard or do you want to walk him .... just as an aid for me to envision - as I know dogs pick up images of your thoughts...

meanwhile - sending healing energies towards his ability to control a little better-

on edit: maybe he would like to walk with you...out into the yard? they get very insecure when this happens, too you know.

and maybe spread some plastic and newspapers around where he normally has these accidents - back to the times of puppy care to make the cleaning a little easier...

:-) They don't really respond well to the "go on the papers, even if the papers are everywhere" philosophy. But, after I clean the carpets again tonight, I'll put down some plastic or something.

Ack. I've resorted to trying to lure him outside with dog biscuts, which isn't working.

41. the out/in fear seems common in pets, I'm told patience works.
I deal with my adopted dog's in/out neurosis by propping open the door and encouraging her to 'go' when she needs to.

A friend (who I greatly respect) tells me that her adopted cat begs to be on the other side of any door that is closed, so when she's home she is constantly letting the thing in and out of rooms and the house, unless it's nice out, when she just props open all the doors so she can do something besides walk behind a cat. My friend thinks her cat's neurosis is a response to being cooped up by its previous caretakers and thinks that the problem is gradually lessening as the cat becomes more comfortable.

Good luck with your carpets, I really know the feeling. I think my little b. stopped 'going' in unhappy places when she decided to trust us. She always looked so guilty when it happened. I never ever punished her for going, but I did bemoan the situation very loudly (sad, not angry) the whole time I cleaned up, which I did in front of her. I think one of her previous caretakers hit her - poor thing's been bounced around.

47. I am so....completely miserable.
Edited on Tue Sep-05-06 05:58 AM by BlueIris
There is no one in my life to love or support me and there never WAS anyone to do any of those things. Despite the MASSIVE and painful efforts I have made at creating positive change, I am alone, I am broke, I am not healthy or happy and as far as I can tell, there's nothing positive coming to take the place of ANY of this pain. It not only makes it impossible to envision why I am continuing along this path, it makes it impossible to come up with a good reason for why I should continue on this earth. I am not thinking of taking my own life, only questioning what the point of any of this is? Where are the people who should love me and whom I should find value in loving? Why is everything being taken from me, and please, if anyone says, "the only things being taken from you are the things no longer of use to you," I will scream. This isn't fair, and if this is the purpose of the "new energy," I think it's worthless.

50. Blue Iris, I hold you in my heart
I read your posts in this forum and see in you a fierce, strong passion for life that must be very hard for you to hold. I know your path is a painful one because I see myself mirrored in your words. I, too, have wondered why I bothered coming here, just to undertake a journey that seems blocked at every step, filled with both physical and emotional pain. But I have learned just a little bit lately about how to hold that passion in a better way for me, to walk myself to a different spot from which to view the scenery of my life. And I'm beginning to see the beauty in this life, I'm starting to be able to hold my passion more easily, to learn to use it for my own good and the good of others.

Reading your words over the past (how many?) years, I can see that you are strong and talented and full of what the world needs now. I know it's a lot to ask of you, but I ask it anyway: please continue your struggle to find a way to bring your light more fully into life. I know it won't be easy, but it will be worthwhile. And I,and others in this life and on this board, are behind you pushing all the while. We've got your back.

In the meantime, I pray to Spirit to help Blue Iris find a way that is good for her, to help her to bring her energies into a place where they will nurture the good and pure in the world, and to help her do this in the care of loving light, in a way that supports her, that her soul's purpose on this earth will be served. And so it is.

60. Well, for the record, it's getting better. Kinda.
Alone feels worse when you're scared and I was REALLY scared when I made that post. I've resolved some of my fears about moving into the higher realms since I made those comments, and I've recognized that I probably won't be alone forever and will find new friends and family members eventually. Plus, everyone in the prayers thread was totally sweet, which really helped ease the terror. And my eclipse night was great, which also helped.

... but I could use a little Universal reinforcement O8)

My 'problems' are crumbs compared to the serious stuff that so many are dealing with, but a particular relationship issue, some nagging financial gnats, and a long-standing low-grade depression (probably made worse by the 2 previously mentioned bugaboo's) ... have got me feeling really low.

Any positive thoughts, ideas, prayers, etc are appreciated.

Thanks ! :grouphug:

67. Could use support in the financial department this week...
I have to deal with my bank at some point, to address some issues which have come up since I've become gainfully employed within the mainstream again. They would pick now to start messing with me...(don't ask). If those who pray could ask the Universe to provide me with the support it can for getting the remainder of my fresh financial start nailed down, that would be great. Thanks, and right back atcha.

79. Apparently, I'm part of the e-coli outbreak.
I have been so sick for the last three weeks, that's why I haven't posted. But, according to my doctor, this e-coli outbreak got me. It was baby spinach I bought to go with my homegrown tomatoes, and I know exactly what brand I bought, too. Anyway, the ONLY thing that saved me from getting it worse than I did, was my "Monkish" manner of cleaning the spinach. No, you don't have to wash it five times, but doing so may have saved my and my son's life. Only one son ate it too, but he wasn't nearly as sick as me, because he's healthier.

I'm better now, but I am still VERY weak, and it'll probably take a month or more before I can get back to where I was when this hit me.

Just a word of advice here: Stay away from Dole bagged baby spinach. It's a killer!

I may have avoided the outbreak because of my accursed fridge. Sometimes the greens will freeze in a certain spot, and they did yet again. (I had the Earthbound spring mix that includes baby spinach) I had to throw the whole thing out - on Thursday, just before I heard about the e coli outbreak.

84. ...egh. So, I received a major spurt of the New energies this morning,
I think...and I'm more than a little overwhelmed. 'Cause right now, it's just energy, it's like I can feel that my sense of my own potential has been blown wide open. But that's all it is. I still don't know which way to go with this. I have a few clues--some local Democrats called me again tonight asking for volunteers, but--ACK. Right now, I just feel like crying all over the place for all of the opportunities I haven't taken (or couldn't take) advantage of over the years, and for how mean I was to myself. So mean. I was actually told by a reader of mine last May that I wouldn't get enough information about which way to go next (and for what reason) exactly until October. Sob! I...don't know if I can wait until October to figure out whatever it is I'm supposed to do. Because--too. much. energy. And a very strange sadness that I just can't--I have no idea why I would be crying so much over being released. Maybe because it feels like abandonment on the doorstep of my old life, without any resources to get on the road to the new one. I don't know. Requesting prayers for clarity. Thanks.

93. Need support in order to manage today's angry mindset.
As much grace from the Universe as I have received today, especially at the bank (!), I have also been the victim of various INSANE occurrences that are, best I can tell, designed to fuck up my life...some more...in the worst ways. GOD. I hate my roommates. But until a storehouse of money opens to fall on my head and allow me to jettison them for good, I'm stuck with them. And they're horrible.

My little tree frog is croaking in his rhody bush outside my window, reminding me that although my roommates are for the most part annoying, ingrateful people, other than them...today, the bank was nice to me. And I am re-developing an optimistic outlook on my novel. And the natural food store that sold me expired echinacea three weeks ago, forcing me to write a comment card in complaint, spontaneously tracked me down today while I was in said store for something else, and gave me free echinacea just to say, "Sorry." And does anyone remember those polls I made in the Lounge last Spring about my future (potential) babies' names that got poo-pooed on by mean Loungers, especially the first one, for a girl, Tatum? Mean Loungers convinced me that no one would ever name her child that...and today I met someone who named her little girl Tatum. HAH. So, I had a good day. No prayers needed for Iris today. Please direct all prayers to mandyky instead--thanks!

She is named Donna and is in Phoenix and will be entering hospice in the next few days. I don't expect her to live through October. I sent her some black kyanite and some kunzite, to try to get things in alignment and promote connection with the Universal Consciousness in order to ease her transition into the afterlife, but that was all I could do at this time (no one's manifesting "in the palm of" anyone's hand around here, yet).

123. Thanks rumple and I Have A Dream.
Especially since my rocks didn't reach her, as the family member (my dad) who was supposed to deliver the black kyanite or the kunzite to her when he was checking her into hospice and giving the family his medical opinion that her situation is beyond the reach of mainstream or alternative medical care "forgot" to do so. (&$*#^#%@()%$Y#!!) Thanks.

are there with her, Blue Iris. If she is in a state between worlds, she will be sensitive to both worlds - your intent has delivered them.

134. I do.
I have also asked my grandpa, who has already passed, to assist her. Her first husband may also be available to guide the transition.

122. Wish me luck on the job front, everyone.
Edited on Fri Sep-29-06 04:16 AM by BlueIris
I made an appointment with my boss to discuss the abusive, inappropriate behavior my coworkers and the assistant manager have been subjecting me to, which is my last attempt to work something out there so that I can stay on until I find a better position. It's not so much about my desire to be ethical, but about the fact that a) I mentioned to my boss yesterday that someone had yelled at me about something recently and she was like, "What? That's a total violation of the harassment policy," so now I feel that I have to report it (non-reporting also violates the policy) and b) I can't work there under these conditions any longer. Also, even though I don't have another job yet, I figure--there's nothing worse than what I'm doing now. Nothing more humiliating, nothing more unpleasant--plus, the longer I stay, the less likely it is that I will find a different job anytime soon, as the environment is just that toxic...and I'm pretty sure the universe doesn't want me to stay there anyway. I've saved most of what I've earned, such as it is (against their own alleged rules, they've been giving me fewer hours than all the new hires) so money isn't the biggest worry it could be and the bottom line is (aside from needing to protect the integrity of my own employment record): I have no choice now if I want to be able to say I took action as soon as a manger had made me aware that the behavior of the abusive coworkers also constituted rule breaking.

Anyway, please no one lecture me: simply wish me good luck WRT my professional life. Thanks.

128. A vivid dream last night told me to post this prayer here.
And I will put it on next month's thread as well if that is OK.
I know I have posted it before, it is one of my favorites, but I will
go with the flow of my dream, cannot hurt.

A prayer by Saint Francis:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred . . . let me sow love
Where there is injury . . . pardon
Where there is doubt . . . faith
Where there is despair . . .hope
Where there is darkness . . . light
Where there is sadness . . .joy
Divine Master,
grant that i may not so much seek
To be consoled . . .as to console
To be understood . . .as to understand,
To be loved . . . as to love
For it is in giving . . .that we receive,
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned,
It is in dying . . .that we are born to eternal life

130. Amazing, Cassie ... synchronicity strikes again!
... I was looking around earlier today for a closing prayer for the thread, I pondered on this one for several minutes.

I think it's perfect and if you don't mind, I'd like to use it as the closer for this month.

Here is a better version, and also has information at the end about St Francis, and what the prayer means and how to use it. Very nice. I want everyone who helps with this thread to know that their work here is very special indeed. May all those who are in need of prayers and those who prayed receive many blessings.

St. Francis prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

St. Francis was born at Assisi in 1182. After a care free youth, he turned his back on inherited wealth and committed himself to God. Like many early saints, he lived a very simple life of poverty, and in so doing, gained a reputation of being the friend of animals. He established the rule of St Francis, which exists today as the Order of St. Francis, or the Franciscans. He died in 1226, aged 44.

The prayer has many of the biblical truths of what it means to be a Christian - to seek to give, and in so doing, receive blessings; that the Lord's Prayer asks God to forgive us as we forgive, and that the goal of eternal life can only result from working on our sins.

Pointers for Prayer : Sometimes Christians are called to turn the world upside down. To bring the exact opposite of what we find in our world. St. Francis' prayer is a bold one, asking for strength to give of ourselves to meet the needs of others. He recognises that it "is in giving that we receive", that as we give of ourselves, we receive the peace and blessing of our risen Lord Jesus. We cannot earn eternal life, but that we are pardoned from the sins that block our claim on it.
Think about the situations that you are involved in that require peace, consolation, hope, light and joy. Then, if you're bold enough, pray the prayer!

136. I found a short poem today, to close out the month ...
Edited on Sat Sep-30-06 06:07 PM by hippiechick
... I had intended to leave the thread with the lovely St. Francis' prayer that Cassiepriam posted above, then was at a Spritual sort of place for a reading this afternoon.

While waiting for my appointment, took a moment to meditate in the grotto.

There was a plaque on the wall, which read:

Build upon resolve and not upon regret
A structure of thy future:
Do not grope among the shadows of old sins
But let thy soul's light shine on in the path of hope
And dissipate the darkness.

Waste no tears on the blotted record of lost years
But turn the leaf and smile to see
The fair white pages that remain to thee."

~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Blessings, light, love and hope to everyone. O8)

for me the words on that plaque are perfect. "Do not grope among the shadows of old sins
But let thy soul's light shine on in the path of hope".

Thank you so very much hippiechick, great closing and a great September prayer and healing thread.
