(Also, apologies if this is...an odd spread, I did it at an online site because my own decks are too saturated with my own energies right now to yield insights into anyone beyond me--for the record, this, um, 9 card Cross spread from this website has always brought me info that jives with what my cards say about me, when my cards are "working.")
The first question I asked was, "How will Bush finish out his term?"
Card 1 (5 of Pentacles)-- (central issue or concern) In this one, Bush and his situation look to me to be like two beggars at the mercy of whatever last, minimal shred of resources are available to them, including the churches or other last avenues of hope. I realize that in some eyes, the 5 of Pentacles reflects positivity of a kind, usually the querant or subject asking for help through channels that cannot deny him or her. 'Cause it's Bush the reading is about, I see it as his frantic search for an escape hatch, preferably the easiest, most assured one he sees as being available to him, one that is not likely to deny him despite his crimes (ie; right-wing religious groups, legal loopholes, or total abdication of responsibility).
Card 2 (Knight of Swords)-- (querant or subject) I see this card as embodying both the swiftness of the changes through which Bush will be removed from office, which may be more like a swift, tornado-like flurry of events than one decisive event that cuts him down to our (or anyone's) satisfaction, as well as Bush's image of himself, that of a daring, commanding agent of vengeance and heroism. I was surprised to see this card upright, even if it may be more inclined to represent Bush's conception of himself than the way we see him--too much energy and self-confidence there to be Bush, or what I sense of his self-opinion. On the bright side, I saw this card a lot during the time after the 2004 election, when I was doing readings about how the vote fraud would be unveiled, and have sometimes seen it appear in readings right before exciting things happened with either Kerry or Fitzgerald.
Card 3 (Page of Wands)-- (events passing out of querant or subject's life) I see this card, representing to me a youngish, rogue-like, spiritually clueless nitwit, as symbolic of the last of Bush's petulant, self-important attitude washing away. He is about to lose the final vestiges of even this most minimal sort of influence on the public and his own people.
Card 4 (2 of Wands)-- (events which may be the deciding factor in what is to come) This one, to me, says that Bush is "making" a decision (or having it made for him) about whether or not to act on...something, probably a plan in the relatively early stages, maybe related to the grotesqueries in the Middle East, maybe related to the elections or his own grave state. He is evaluating which course to take, or perhaps whether or not to take a direct course of action (as opposed to sitting passively back some more and letting others take care of things for him as they always have).
Card 5 (Justice Rx)-- (events that are before the querant or subject) Welp, I...don't think this is a good sign for Bush. May not be a good sign for us either, though, as my general sense of this reading is that it doesn't suggest that Bush is yanked out of office and proclaimed evil and a war criminal in the way many of us would like to see a whoooole lot. To me, it could be suggestive of either a massive, major pile of legal actions and decisions unfavorable to Bush crashing down on him in the greatest, most severe extreme, or suggestive of a grossly injust act that hurts us and our society more than it could ever hurt him, although I think that if it's symbolic of an "injustice," (like, say, bombing Iran) it won't reflect in any way other than direly on him, either.
Card 6 (Wheel of Fortune Rx)-- (querant or subject's emotional state) I think even Bush knows that in a karmic, spiritual and chronological sense, his time is pretty seriously up. And I think he wants it to be done, whether he will gain the chance to redeem himself for what he's done or not. This card could also represent Bush's evil deeds and as cassie has noted, total fuck-up of his own intended spiritual mission in this lifetime, or his utter obliviousness to these failures.
Card 7 (King of Pentacles Rx)-- (querant or subject's environment, and how he is perceived by others) This one doesn't need much explanation, I think. Bush is a once-prosperous ruler, (at least in terms of his precious political capital, or what others thought of it) who is now utterly ruined. Especially in terms of his handling of economic matters, he is increasingly seen by those who care as incompetent, churlish, unwise and even mad. What strikes me most about this card is what is suggests of riches and potential squandered. ...Egh. When it comes to what others think of him, the last thing I personally want is for folks to focus on Bush's alleged potential for greatness, particularly as economics are concerned. Blech.
Card 8 (9 of Swords Rx)-- (querant or subject's hopes, dreams, aspirations or desired outcome for his or her present course) Bush wants both his fears for himself and his future to cease, and right now, if you please. Like others, I believe he is in a state of mental crisis, and probably wants out of that place as quickly as possible, no matter how he has to get there. Being Bush, he also likely wants the absolute easiest way out of his troubles that anyone could ask for and expect. What concerns me about this card is that I think it could imply a maybe-suicide for him, or even that he is, or offers himself up to be, "suicided," to stop the pain and escape the consequences, if nothing else. That's what I always find so disheartening about the 9 of Swords...it points to a way out of a dark place, but not much about how a person or chain of events may get
to that way. It's more foreboding to me than hopeful. Looking at it in this spread, I was reminded of the way that many suicidally depressed people appear to rapidly improve, or at least stop hurting, right before taking their own lives. Friends and family members sometimes say that the perceived dramatic improvement right before the end seems like the kind of improvement that results from a person suddenly finding a solution to a burden they had struggled with for a long time, which, well, for the suicidal, is the burden of leading lives filled with such enormous pain.
Card 9 (Queen of Wands, Rx)-- (outcome) This is the card I was most disappointed to see. I had been hoping to see the Queen of Wands or the Queen of Cups in this position in this reading perhaps, but...not reversed. To me, the reversal of this card suggests the possibility that the dynamic, independent, female fire energy of this Queen, with all of her hard-edged, no-nonsense, benevolent disciplinarian's approach to leading and inspiring...fails us, or is otherwise perverted somehow when it comes to the resolution of the Bush insanity. Does our enigmatic Queen of Wands, with her potential for bringing resolution to the Bush madness, drop the ball somehow? Is she defamed, maybe before she can offer more help, support, or suggested solutions to the people Bush has hurt? Does she succumb to total vengeance, or other unwise strategies or reactions to Bush? I have this fear that the Bush situation has simply gone to far to be resolved in an entirely clean manner by our flawed and damaged society, particularly within the borders of our own nation. I guess it's conceivable that the Queen of Wands is tied more closely to Bush than the world's reaction to him, but--the Queen of Wands, even reversed?
Bush? If I had to pick a Queen to represent Bush it would be the Queen of Swords reversed. Stingy spitefulness, with a dash of abject snobbery.
Gah. Not a satisfying or hopeful reading to me. At all.
