5. Thanks, K
A donut--why didn't I think of that! D'oh!

Sure could use a real one instead of a virtual one. Today isn't shaping up to be much better, unfortunately. Ugh. I remain in a fug.

7. I assume my phone line is still full of static.
I won't know if it's fixed until I get home this evening (looking at being here for twelve hours today and tomorrow to make up some of yesterday's missed hours.) If it's still full of static, I'll have to call for service on Friday.

This reminds me, too, to look up the computer shop that built my computer, see about getting it fixed. I'm afraid to shut off my computer right now, because it's still not giving me the desktop. It is booting up, but once Windows does it's little screen with the animated "Bar of Time Passing" while it loads, the next screen should be my desktop. All that happens is the screen goes black and stays that way until I unplug it and start over :banghead:

9. It sounds like a software problem instead of hardware.
I've had my share of hard-drive crashes, the last one requiring the shop to send it to another shop to recover the data. I think Windows is just screwing up somewhere, but I don't know how to find it. I'll ask on the computer forum here on DU, see what the Windows experts say :)

What's been going on for you, if you can say, that is?

10. Well that's good
Software = reinstall = pretty easy to fix. :) Then, as Mr. MG always says, "Reboot. It does that."

Going on for me? Oh, a low point in MG's Adventures in Publishing. Three rejections in two days, plus I lost two contests. I'm questioning my novel opening after I got some (tough, but useful) feedback from a helpful agent, and now I'm worried I wasted my chances on 67 agents with a bad opening scene. I've since reworked it, which was pretty easy, and I still have more agents to send it to, but...you know. Second guessing and then second guessing the second guessing makes for frayed nerves.

I worked some of it out with a new blog post (as always, anyone here can PM me for the link), with my thoughts on the publishing business vs. self-publishing. It's pretty blunt and says some harsh things about both options, but they needed to be said. No worries, though--I'm not burning any bridges. ;)

11. While self-publishing has its own headaches (marketing!)
I think I'd rather do that stuff than the search for the right agent. I'm sure you may try the self-pub route sometime, but this is what you know best, so hang in there. It's about like looking for work. But you do at least get a reply when you're rejected, right? Too often in looking for work, you get nothing, and just have to assume you weren't right for the position. No more is that world run by people with much (if any) sense of consideration.

I'll look at your blog post later today and maybe comment even! ;)

14. I was going to suggest
the computer group here. I don't hang there much any more. Someone will suggest starting in "Safe Mode".
If you don't get the help you need there, PM me and I'll see if I can help.

15. Thanks :)
I'll probably post tonight. I need to remember how to get to Safe Mode. The other thing is I rarely know what to do once I'm there. I've fixed other Windows problems before, but this one is just plain odd.

I can't remember if I have the XP disk, either, or if it was loaded onto the drive. I'll check that when I get home, too.

(easier said) .. those 'rejections' just get you that much closer to the one acceptance you need!

I believe Mercury is being further agitated by the great tension of the big tsquare. It'll ease up.

18. It's getting better already, I think
Started last night. It's like being stuck in a video game level, not being able to find any way out of it, and then suddenly seeing a path or a door where you'd swear there wasn't one before.

I can has renewed hope nao? :)
