4. I watched that follow your bliss video by Campbell
and it changed my life, back in 03
I said to myself, hell, I'm already dead, if I don't follow my bliss
quit my job, moved to Pittsburgh, resurrected by astrology and it's been great since.
Thanks Mr. Campbell, that's where it all changed
(and Uranus entered Pisces 3/10/03)

6. I know! That man has been haunting me
before I knew his name  I'm positive that I saw the very tail end of a documentary or report about him as a teen - it was he as a young man in grainy black and white, studying abroad in Asia. Then years later, the first time I heard the phrase from my future BIL, "Follow Your Bliss" during a conversation upon first meeting him. Talk about resonating like crazy. Then finally saw the Bill Moyers' interviews later and it all fell into place.

Well, Dear Rick, if you didn't follow yours, I wouldn't be as sure and as relaxed with my path. Thank you.

Or is there only one to search for? I found repeated reference to "The Power of Myth" - not sure if that's what you're talking about, but I'd like to listen to it one day.

13. The Power of Myth - If interested in the videos...
Edited on Tue Jul-19-11 03:14 PM by Kind of Blue

The first is The Heroe's Adventure from wiki: hero types, hero deeds, Jesus Christ, the Buddha, movie heroes, Star Wars as a metaphor, an Iroquois story: the refusal of suitors, dragons, dreams and Jungian psychology, “follow your bliss,” consciousness in plants, Gaia, Chartres cathedral, spirituality vs. economics, emerging myths, “Earthrise” as a symbol
http://www.mevio.com/episode/92858/the-power-of-myth-with-joseph-cambell

Second The Message of the Myth from wiki: Creation myths, transcending duality, pairs of opposites, God vs. Nature, sin, morality, participation in sorrow, the Gospel of Thomas, Old Time Religion, computers, religion as software, the story of Indra: “What a great boy am I!,” participation in society http://www.mevio.com/episode/92994/insane-films-joseph-campbell-and-the-power

Third The First Storytellers from wiki: Animal memories, harmonization with body and life-cycle, consciousness vs. its vehicle, killing for food, story: “The Buffalo's Wife,” buffalo massacre, initiation ritual, rituals diminishing, crime increasing, artists, the Shaman, the center of the world
http://www.mevio.com/episode/93245/insane-films-joseph-campbell-and-the-power

Fourth Sacrifice and Bliss from wiki: Chief Seattle, the sacred Earth, agricultural renewal, human sacrifice, sacrifice of the Mass, transcendence of death, story: “The Green Knight,” societal dictates vs. following bliss, “hidden hands” guiding life's work
http://www.mevio.com/episode/93808/insane-films-the-power-of-myth-part

Fifth Love and the Goddess from TV.com: the role of sacrifice in mythology. He points out that virtually all cultures have used sacrifice at one time or another, and that it has almost always been voluntary on the part of the victim. He uses this concept to explore the nature of life in the face of death, in the primitive world and today.
http://www.mevio.com/episode/94777/insane-films-joseph-campbell-and-the-power

Sixth The Masks of Eternity from TV.com: This final hour is filmed in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, unlike the rest which were filmed at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch. Campbell uses images from art history to demonstrate the concept of spiritual unity giving birth to the world of duality. Also, he demonstrates the knowledge that ancient peoples had that their images were not the god itself, but only a mask which was used to make the transcendent visible. He describes the failure of reading metaphor as fact, and mistaking the mask for the real thing, and how this tendency has shaped the world around us.

regulations, a gazillion forms to fill out, home inspections, etc., etc. I'll bet you could find some good stuff at your local farmers market. We have a few folks around here that sell honey, jams, jellies, canned vegs and fruits, and there's probably someone like that in your area.

24. Heh! Okay O, Mighty One!...
You know it's true, c'mon take a bow...

Now..big question..

WHAT DEFINES BLISS...exactly....?

How do you know if you are following THE bliss?

I love to write, but I don't expect to make a living doing it. Nonetheless, I will continue to do it, because it fills me with bliss...

However, there are other things I enjoy that I intend to make money at that could make me joyful and provide blissful moments, perhaps for others, maybe touching the world, blah, blah, exceptional.

So is that or is that category of things...the real bliss one should follow?

OR, should one do ALL of it, and

forget what happens..and just enjoy it??

The conversation we have started about following your bliss, is kind of like... Do what you love and the money will follow...right??

Or...

27. I am a one trick pony
all I do is astrology (and DU)
and many times, I get paid for doing it
That, is bliss, for me.

My clients tell me ALL THE TIME "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO...." I tell them, YES YOU DO, just do it.
Yes you do.

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now." - Goethe

One of the saddest things I've realized lately is I no longer have any real dreams (& my childhood dream of being an astronaut is no longer a reality! LOL).

I keep asking for direction, but still stuck in the mud.
The only thing I know I want to do is travel. How to facilitate it, I just don't know.
Never thought I'd still be searching at this old age!:eyes:

1. You can still be a spiritual astronaut :)
2. Keep asking for direction and get as quiet as you can to hear.
3. Be who you are, that is YOUR DIRECTION
I answer so many people's questions about finding your direction; I got lucky, I found out specifically.
Do what you do BEST, that is your DIRECTION. Love people.
Use your powerful Scorpio purity. Ask people what they appreciate about your; that'll be it.
4. Think about this, stop SEARCHING, look at your here and now

some ideas for you anyway

I never got beyond just looking up some tour companies. I have seen adverts for hiring guides though.

Wouldn't that be fun? When I lived in Vegas and drove back and forth from Texas for trips, there were always bus tourists at the truck stop in Arizona... This is still on my list of stuff I might do some day. You would be great at it. I imagine you have to count and make sure everyone gets on the bus, etc.

Maybe the first step would be to actually go on one of the tours.

34. Ric, there were many yesterday
that I resisted listing. That video alert on the power of intention (to me, commitment) was the first one I've ever gotten from the site.

Got follow-up work transcript from last fall about an extremely shy 24year old orphaned, physically challenged girl living in a nursing home for the elderly in Georgia. She surprised everyone when she figuratively stood up for herself and stated that she wanted to live in a group home. Synchrony because I was talking to Japple in this thread who lives in Georgia and found her bliss.

The girl, Bylon Alexander, after defeating many state regulations against her, finally got her bliss thru the power of intention, got on a waiting list for a home. Unfortunately, this past weekend she died  But everyone knew that she happy even as death approached because she did it! :grouphug:

Then was suddenly awakened last night and couldn't get back to sleep. Started flipping channels when I landed just past the beginning of a 2-hour broadcast on JRR Tolkien translating his mythic journey of life into literary masterpieces.

So I take it that the Universe was telling me say yes to the adventure, as Campbell says, to evoke qualities of character that we don't even know that we possess. Onward!

48. loved "The Power of Myth"
When my kids were growing up I actually went to church and Sunday School, and my Sunday School watched "The Power of Myth" and discussed it each week. So I became a big Bill Moyers fan and a big Joseph Campbell fan at the same time. I didn't keep up with the church bit, but I sure was glad to have seen the whole series. I started paying much more attention to Myth after that, too. In general I am less of a story person and more of a math and image person, but I started paying much more attention to stories that give us our roots.

Thanks for the discussion, KOB. I might have to go back and give this a listen again!

And, yep, to this day, I remember "follow your bliss." I do best when I take this advice to heart.
