Sidereal time
Can anyone explain Sidereal time? Maybe you astro people?

I'm doing a training course, and this is the first concept I need to understand.

1. I'll give it a shot, but it's hard to explain
Western Tropical astrology has nothing to do with the constellations. It is entirely based on 0 degrees of Aries, or what we calibrate to on the first INSTANT of spring.

At that moment, every spring, the SIDEREAL TIME (star time) is always 0 hours 0 minutes 0 seconds. EVERY YEAR. We adjust our zodiac to match.
The astronomers line up their zodiac with what constellation is in the background of the sun. Due to the wobble of the earth and the tilt of the axis, this gives us what is called the precession of the equinoxes. Look that up because it is very hard to explain in type.

The two zodiacs line up every 26,500 years, note the match to the Mayan calendar. They were in alignment around the time of Christ.
Now, they are off by approx. 1 sign which is why RELATIVELY soon we will have completely backed up thru the sign of Pisces (Since Christ) and backed into THE AGE OF AQUARIUS for the next 2,000 years or so.

On the second day of spring EVERY YEAR, the sidereal time is 00:03:56. The point of reference backs up 3 minutes and 56 seconds every day. So, if you are born at the exact moment of Summer, around June 21, the Sidereal time is always approx. 12:00:00, etc.

Our entire western zodiac is based upon the relationship of all the planets and signs to the point of Spring. So, when I say that my Sun is at 10 degrees Capricorn, it means that, 0 Capricorn is exactly 3/4 of the way through the zodiac based upon spring, NOT THE CONSTELLATION.

Using that sidereal time for the day you are born, and adjusting your birth time for GMT and back to the USA for the longitude of birth, that's how an astrologer calculates the rising sign and all the 12 houses. I can't say it any simpler. Current astrologers have lost this ability as they have the computer do everything for them. In the "old" days, we calculated it all by hand starting with a known number: the given sidereal time for your birthdate for either noon or midnite Greenwich time.

Now, that that's clear....

good luck, don't give up.

3. Thanks, Rick ...
I'm still working on it. Does sidereal time run in 24 hour increments? I need to know, for example, when it is 11:30 S.T. Will it be the same time every day? There is a converter online. Do I need to use that every time I need to pinpoint 11:30? Or will tomorrow same time also be 11:30?

Thanks again. That took a lot of effort to explain.

5. wow
Somehow I missed that. The time is adjusted every day? And that is due to the procession?

I'm dabbling in astrology to go along with the Tarot study. But, I am also researching remote viewing. The instructor says that 11:30 is the best sidereal time to do it. I guess I need a sidereal clock? Is there such?

Thanks so much Rick. Your knowledge is wide and deep. Great perspectives.

8. Briefly
On the moment of spring on March 20, different time each year, that becomes 00:00:00
the next day at the same time, it's 00:03:56

ONE HOUR later, it's 01:03:56

So, your example of 11:30pm each night would be at a different CLOCK time each night

Don't confuse clock time with star time.

good luck
