About increasing the number of vaccinations
Edited on Fri Oct-07-05 06:11 AM by DemExpat
possible to give to children.....with no end in sight....

What do you here in this Group who are supportive of complementary medicine alongside orthdox medicine think about this trend in health service?

Freedom from illness sounds so good, but what are possible downsides to all of this adminstering of vaccines to babies and children, like possible side-effects, not to mention all of the physical pain from the shots?

Where will the number of jabs stop? Can you imagine the number in 20 years or so? :scared:

With my children I thought long and hard about vaccinations (potential side-effects, etc.) but ended up giving them to them.

Cervical cancer jab 'in a year'

The vaccine could be given to girls as young as 10 to 13
A vaccine shown to be 100% effective against two virus strains that cause most cervical cancer could be available within a year, say manufacturers.
Gardasil worked against the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV).

Some 12,167 women aged 16 to 23 from 13 countries, including the UK, took part in the drug company study.

Researchers believe a vaccine could work best if given before adolescence, but critics fear this could encourage under-age sex.

Merck's vaccine is in head-to-head competition with a rival from UK-based GlaxoSmithKline called Cervarix.

Cervical cancer kills 274,000 women worldwide every year, including 1,120 in the UK.

1. I honestly don't know if I trust so many new vaccines....
they sound great but how long have they been tested? Do those who get these vaccinations then continue unhealthy behavior & habits because they feel "safe"?
The cervix cancer one as well as others as you said in teh futures...like blood pressure, cancers, obesity etc etc.

I am rather skeptical about vaccines.....seems like another way for drug compaines to make millions....to our benefit?? ....am reserving judgement on that I guess......

I really don't know what to say, Dem EX. I know how you feel though....

How ya doin'??

2. Strictly from a scientific point of view -
I am quite wary of vaccinations for young children. I am not happy that babies are given Hep B vaccinations...why? The mode of transmission is blood or sexual contact.

Misgivings on my part because I truly believe our bodies are designed (like a fine machine in tune with nature) to ward of a variety of things, and all these vaccinations just mucks up the machinery (immune system).

I'm not so sure it's a good thing.

5. Since I do try to keep my and my childrens' bodies

as free from too many foreign substances as I possibly can - which is pretty much impossible in our plastic and chemicalized world - I also am very wary of this trend.

I have avoided antibiotics for my children throughout their youths - they each have had one treatment of this (fantastic) medication in their 21 and 24 years - and letting their childhood bodies learn to deal with virusses and germs etc. without resorting to these meds except in emergencies has, in my view, allowed them to build up great immunity.

3. Given how a virus works I am not thrilled with the idea.
A virus works by invading cells. It is a mutation on the genetic structure. IF you vaccinate for a virus you are changing cellular DNA and THAT scares hell out of me for long term impact.

They are, essentially, changing the cellular structure of the Cervix in young girls. What will the long range impact be on the cervix in terms of competency in pregnancy or even in elasticity for childbirth? What about the impact it will have on current methods used to even TEST for cervical cancers or STDs? Will the mutated cervical cells THEN become fair game for some other viral changes that will provoke more virulent cancers or super STDs?

Frankly, I want to see a LOT more long range studies on this stuff before I'd have my daughter shot up with that stuff...

Just my two cents.

4. I also think there is a downside to all of this.
I had very early stage cancer of the cervix when I was 34, but from the teenage years before my daughter became interested in sex I advised her on not having multiple partners - advice which I am happy she followed.

Today I heard of another vaccine for melanoma....it is this developing of so many vaccines that I find will be a quandary for many parents worried about possible negative effects of all of this injecting of substances into young bodies.

Thanks for your view,

Barb

6. I don't like them.
But since when did anyone discover that cancer is caused by a virus?

100% effective? That sounds a little over the top.
My goddess.

7. I absolutely REFUSED to follow my pediatrician's
advice regarding childhood vaccinations for my three sons, and spread them out as far as possible - getting their last shots just days before they entered kindergarten. My youngest had to have an appointment for special shots that didn't have one of the DPT ingredients because he had seizures as an infant. The doctor was very angry with me, but I told him I simply didn't believe in giving them all those shots so early - I don't trust them all that much, anyway. The only one I was okay with completely with was the polio vaccine - my cousin had polio, and it left him disabled. My children don't seemed to have suffered any ill effects from their "tardy" vaccinations.

The thing that concerns me about vaccines now is the lack of extensive testing, the greed of the pharmaceutical companies, and Bush's insistence that we all get a flu vaccine. I won't need that cervical cancer vaccine - I don't have one.
