Narcissistic Personality Quiz
http://psychcentral.com/quizzes/narcissistic.htm

(Based upon the Narcissistic Personality Inventory)

A score between 12 and 15 is average.
Celebrities often score closer to 18.
Narcissists score over 20.

Here are the seven component traits of narcissism: (according to this quiz)

Authority

Authority refers to a person's leadership skills and power. People who score higher on authority like to be in charge and gain power, often for power's sake alone.

Self-Sufficiency

This trait refers to how self-sufficient a person is, that is, how much you rely on others versus your own abilities to meet your needs in life.

Superiority

This trait refers to whether a person feels they are more superior than those around them.

Exhibitionism

This trait refers to a person's need to be the center of attention, and willingness to ensure they are the center of attention (even at the expense of others' needs).

Exploitativeness

This trait refers to how willing you are to exploit others in order to meet your own needs or goals.

Vanity

This trait refers to a person's vanity, or their belief in one's own superior abilities and attractiveness compared to others.

Entitlement

This trait refers to the expectation and amount of entitlement a person has in their lives, that is, unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with one's expectations. People who score higher on this trait generally have a greater expectation of entitlement, while those who score lower expect little from others or life.

5. What does it mean to score lower than average?
I scored an 8.

In my 20s, I'm sure I would have scored higher, but probably still in the average range.

Does anyone here think the score is affected by age and experience?

21. Good questions.
I don't know though. Hopefully, I'll come across the answers. If so, I'll post back here. :)

9. Yeah, I felt something close to that as well.
It does seem to be the standard test though.

The Wikipedia page on narcissism states this:

The Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) is the most widely used measure of narcissism in social psychological research. Although several versions of the NPI have been proposed in the literature, a forty-item forced-choice version (Raskin & Terry, 1988) is the one most commonly employed in current research. The NPI is based on the DSM-III clinical criteria for narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), although it was designed to measure these features in the general population. Thus, the NPI is often said to measure "normal" or "subclinical" (borderline) narcissism (i.e., in people who score very high on the NPI do not necessarily meet criteria for diagnosis with NPD).

14. I know someone who probably has NPD
to the point where it seriously harms her social and work relationships. Unfortunately I think it's a problem that people rarely seek help for, as they tend to never think their problems originate with themselves.

7. I find it really interesting that self-sufficiency is viewed negatively.
Wonder why...

23. From the narcissist I know the best, I understand this

Even though narcissists get help from others, through bullying, manipulation, game-playing, they will tell you that "nobody helps me."

This person I know, for example, gets financial help, child-rearing help, home-improvement help, job help from friends and family members. Yet the narcissist who receives all this help harbors a deep hostility toward those who provide that help, and actually acts like these family members and friends are the reason for all problems. It's really strange.

I have just had to cut myself off from this person, even though it's someone I dearly love. You can only give so much - and receive so much scorn for it - before it becomes toxic.

I think others here know these relatives and friends, if you think about it. They want to pretend that they are totally self-sufficient, and they look down on anyone who needs help, mainly because they are so self-absorbed they have no real help to give.

I laughed because I scored a 5. I figured I'd score higher, I am trying to get some music going, but my shyness keeps me from rehearsals with new musicians.

Once I'm playing I'm fine...just gotta get over the shy...

25. Ah, yes... I understand.
I have seen some people resent those who help them even though they asked for the help, and even though the people giving are going without themselves to help them.

Thank you for the insight, and good luck with your music, Tsiyu. :)

11. Ummm....
Apparently, I should be a celebrity :hide: Eek.

But I scored high in authority and I don't necessarily consider that a bad trait. I think it's just the nature of my life...only child, single mother, only person at work who has my particular job, etc. And I really like organizing and working on projects. Duh, I am a Cappy! (At least I was very low on entitlement and superiority. :) )

13. Haha!
Yeah, I got 3 in both Authority and Self-Sufficiency.

I also got a 2 in Superiority. I do think liberals, in general, are better people. (This "superior" status is available to everyone though; I don't think that it's an inherent trait. Anybody can make the decision to care about the world and her beings, and they also would be among the "superior" people, based upon my definion.)

I'm a Capricorn too! :D

but that's because I love flying under the radar and blending in. Also too (/palin), I am not body centered because I'm not fond of mine. Wonder what life would be like with an awesomely fabulous body. Then maybe I'd be all "hey! look at me!" (nah probably not)

But scored 5 on Power, and 3 on Vanity. I guess I think a bit of myself. But that makes me happy right now, I'm seeing it as indicative of my ambition. It's working for me. :)

27. I scored a four ...
and there was only one question, the very last, where I said "I am an extraordinary person", that probably showed up there on the vanity one.

But, I believe we are *ALL* extraordinary.

29. I scored 13, with a 'high' on Superiority.
I don't consider myself superior in any way. However, one thing I noticed was how many of the statements are legitimate affirmations. Seems to me that it would be positive to pick the affirmations, but I guess not ;)

the ones that read like affirmations. Maybe I should try it again and see what happens? :P

I don't know why I'm still awake. I have things to do today and the sun's coming up now! :o
