I just entered the DU photo contest, wish me luck!
Edited on Sun Mar-14-10 08:37 PM by icymist
This is my entry titled 'Old Chevy Truck' in the theme: Beautiful Decay.

There's some really good competition here (photo heavy) but I'm trying. Took this picture today, BTW.

2. I really love the picture
But it probably is not a good idea to post it here. You wouldn't want to influence people's votes. ;)

Better to wait until after the voting!

(spoken like a true competitor, heh, heh)

But yes, GOOD LUCK. Not so much luck that you win, though, because it seems like it would be a pain to organize the next contest. What a prize!!

But I hope you keep entering. They are really a lot of fun. I'm having a ball with photography--mostly herons, LOL.

7. There's a prize?
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 01:46 AM by icymist
I thought it was only bragging rights or something like that. Anyway, this is the first time I've ever entered a photo contest (It's only been fine art for me) and I'll just be happy to place. Please, by all means, I didn't intend to create an unfair advantage by posting here, just excited.

P.S. I really like your photo as well. Really vibrant color. I wish the sun would have come out for my Chevy Truck.

13. Hey Icymist!! Yeah, it is a WONDERFUL prize
You get to spend hours organizing the next photo contest, LOL!!!! Your photo is EXACTLY the kind that people want to vote for. They actually LOVE old car photos. I do, too. So you better be prepared for a win!!

4. It sure does fit the title. Good luck!
Thanks for the link :) I love the photography contests. I wish we could get it together enough to do that in the artist group.

8. I was thinking the same.
Let's find how the photo contest plays out and then we'll figure out how to start one with the Art group.

5. I love this photo!
It's a great entry!
I entered too..I really enjoy the photo contests each month-it took me a long time to get up the nerve to join in. I get a kick out of just participating-I think I'd faint if I ever won, lol.
But I learn a lot from the photography group and think that it's very supportive and encouraging, no matter your skill level. Best of luck!:hi:

9. Whoa, I love your photo!

Isn't it amazing how fleeting a perfect photo moment passes by? My entry isn't as good as I wanted it to be,.. the sun wasn't right, the photo I prefered came out blurry, next time I'll use the stand, yadda, yadda, yadda.... I simply don't do photographs unless I'm using them in my fine art. My only wish is I hadn't started this thread, which is being viewed as generating votes for me. Please, everyone, vote for someone else. I'll enter something some other time.

16. oh, not really
I was just joshing you. I think it's cute that you are excited about it. The whole thing made me smile. You are going to get a TON of votes with this picture, just because it is a wonderful picture, and a really vote getting one as well.

But I did notice you said that you are new at posting pictures on the net. If you win, believe me, you will get experienced fast.

18. I love your photo, too
There are a lot of good entries this time. But I love, love, love the lines in yours.

I decided to go with something mundane, the type thing people see every day, just to interpret the theme on a kind of average person's level. I don't expect to get many votes, but I just felt like entering it.

I have so much fun with photography! If I were an evangelist for anything, besides energy medicine, it would be photography.

I'd just be happy to place in the top six. It's my first time doing this. Some of the other photos are really, really good.

Love it--but then for some reason I have a "thing" for old decaying vehicles abandoned deep in the woods. :D

Best of luck, icymist! :hi:

15. Everybody does
It is a universal theme. Everybody is drawn to them. I am too! People personalize their cars, and they get all nostalgic and so forth when they see cars rusting. And this is an exceptionally cool looking car.

17. Good point
Plus I always wonder how an old car got deep, deep into a forest, down a hill and through the trees. Makes me start thinking of bootleggers. :D

20. yeah, I forgot that
It's the MYSTERY. It just makes you stop and wonder where this car has been, what it has been through, etc. This is a really fun picture. I'm pretty worried that it wins, and she'll have to organize next month's contest.

21. Did anyone recognize me from last month's contest?
Can you tell that I didn't love the theme of still life? Because I really don't like that theme. So I decided to do something that would annoy a large subset of people, and appeal to the the people that I love, and screw the actual photography part of it. I silently dedicated this to ASAH. Surprisingly, I guess because it was a bit different, it did get into the finals. It was fun to set up, and motivated me to semi clean up my study.

I really like your photo! I would have voted for it no matter the content! (I hardly ever remember to check the photo contest threads--perhaps it's my fear of GD. )

23. Yeah, I'm a bit wicked
And, naturally I put "Mind Machines You Can Build" right there on top. There's a method to my wickedness. :)

I was wondering if some heads were exploding over this one.

24. That was yours?! Well, I voted for it.
I absolutely love the geometry, the colors and the light. It's certainly Architectural Digest-worthy - well, that's where I was thinking I'd see such a gorgeous tablescape.

25. Thanks! But this is a sort of anti- still life!
If you looked at all the other still life pictures, they just look a lot different from this. What they do is make boxes, or buy boxes to make the light bounce back onto the still life, so there are either no shadows or very controlled shadows. Since overall I have zero interest in taking still life pictures, I sort of refused to do the traditional photography still life. So, I think a couple of the non technical type people there loved the photo, but the people who made the boxes pretty much didn't at all.

I kinda went for the ethereal anti still life look. And I really wanted to see if anyone her recognized the Mind Machines book. See, I ended up having fun with Still Life even though that is definitely not my thing. I thought it would go down in flames, really, and it didn't. The photo contests are funny like that.
