Yesterday, in meditation, the question of anger came up
How am I doing handling it; what is the purpose of anger.

So I went to my friend Ruby and asked if any of her spirit friends had information to share. It was funny because she immediately asked me if I was ready to take notes. Apparently someone had something to share and Ruby would not be around to hear and remember what was shared. It was loud and clear to me that they had been waiting for me to ask the question. So I took notes. I could barely keep up, this message came so fast, but here it is:

What is the purpose of anger and how do we handle it?

Anger --- necessary so we are not crushed by the will of other people.

It’s about bringing inappropriate actions by other people to a halt.

Bonnie -- your previously uncontrolled indignation is not running wild. You are doing better with it.]

The thought associated is “I don’t _think_ so” (my note to you - The voice raised on the first three words and then lowered n the last. I think you will get the tone of it)

An honest immediate outburst stating facts and inequalities is the appropriate response to feeling anger.

No returning to it --- no seething, smoldering rage.

Say “that’s wrong, NO” An expression of dismay and not holding it.

Anger not expressed and released gets into the tissue of the body and eats away.

You don’t even need to confront --- just release.

There is no need to be compliant or complacent --- take action to rectify a situation.

Anger is a trigger. It means pay attention. As pain is to an injury or insult in the body.

Anger is not to be feared --- use it.

1. Ah, perfect
I actually love the subject of anger. I also love the subject of power in relationships. They are somewhat related.

The problem with anger is that it can be uncontrolled, and believe me, that is BAD and TOXIC. Controlled anger is completely necessary. Honestly I tend not to get angry at things.....but sometimes I force myself to express anger that I don't even feel that much, just because it is an appropriate emotion at the time. I think I say to myself, "This is not acceptable, and if I don't want a recurrence I better do something about it."

Thanks so much. I'd love a discussion of anger. I'm really, really glad that my first reaction to something that causes me displeasure is not anger. That must be a terrible way to live.......but without any anger? Well, you could end up being a doormat.

2. Absolutely.
I was abandoned at birth, then placed in a frigid and multiply abusive family. The rage that I have experienced from this sustained series of outrages and indignations and dishonors and violations...is perfectly normal. Uncomfortable perhaps to those around me, but perfectly normal.

Thankfully books such as "The Primal Wound" have allowed for validation and release.

Anger is your wake-up call to Authenticity! :hi:

3. Nicely put...
I like that one.

Because of my asking to not add any more to the pain on this planet, I felt it important to learn just what the purpose of anger is and not "let it fly".

That's uncontrolled and actually does fly around and splatter any who are in its path.

But it is better to express immediately rather than stuff it. That leads also to self-destructive and suicidal feelings. One of the awful things about abuse of children is that they are pretty much helpless to it. If it leads them to feel they are in a hopeless situation and they cannot trust anyone, it can lead to some terribly self-destructive behaviors.
