I have a special prayer request today
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 07:30 PM by SeattleGirl
This morning, four Lakewood, Washington police officers were shot and killed as they sat in a coffee shop preparing for their shift. No one else in the shop was threatened, so it appears that the officers were specifically targeted. This happened less than a month after a Seattle police officer was shot and killed as he sat in his patrol car (they have caught the man suspected of doing that).

Lakewood is a suburb of Tacoma; for those who aren't sure, Tacoma is just south of Seattle.

I ask for prayers and good thoughts to the officers families, their brother and sister officers, the people who were in the shop, and everyone affected by this.

5. Where that happened ...
Is an interesting area.

There is opulent wealth and then just a few blocks away "Crack Alley" with tenement housing that is horrible. From my observations the interesting thing about this is, there is no more of a drug problem in upper income areas as poor areas, the difference is the poor areas are criminalized, while upper income areas are protected.

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP)says police who've tried to enforce drug laws in upper income areas are shot down (literally sometimes) and told to concentrate on the poor and forget the wealthy who have "connections". The wealthy do use the poor for their connections and access, however. I could tell some stories about how they recruit young kids with fancy cars, jewelry and "beautiful people" I have seen this myself while working in transitional housing when a doctor's son used to hang around in his fancy car in order to recruit Somalian young men who are still pretty gaga over American life after leaving some horrible and REAL "death camps" in Somalian refugee camps where their mothers were raped, etc. ...

Isn't it time to ask the Universe to stop this madness of the Drug War and legalize drugs so we can enforce it better, stop the killing, tax it, and allow people with addictions to openly seek help? Also horribly harmful and immediately addictive drugs like meth and crack would not be so popular if the "pure" drugs weren't so expensive and hard to get. In other countries with legalized use, usage is actually monitored so people do not overdose, and addicts are actually productive members of society, able to work and control their habits, such as in Denmark.

Americans are such moral nannies and often just do not see the connections. I wonder how much this shooting is about some angry addict who needed help.

Just sayin' this is what I am going to ask for as I suspect there is a great deal of anger where those police were innocently having a cup of coffee ...

6. I agree that we will see more of this if we don't end the drug war
But I tend to doubt that this was an angry addict. It was more likely a drug gang hit. That is just a guess, however.

Sending love and light to the whole area.......

10. Agree on the "drug war"
Edited on Sun Nov-29-09 10:25 PM by get the red out
It's more a war on reason and sanity than anything, an excuse to persecute the poorest among us.

Bless the families of these officers, this is a monstrous crime, so heartbreaking.

I will definitely pray for their families, friends and coworkers. May they be guided quickly and easily to the other side. May they be at peace.

12. Thank you, everyone, for your responses.
These shootings have just rocked this area. I have no direct connection to anyone involved, but it just wounds my heart that this happened.

I appreciate your kind thoughts and words toward those who are directly connected.
