3. Thanks and to you too
remember folks originally these are agricultural festivals going back a LONG TIME... like probably to the first years men and women tilled the land.

It should be a way to reestablish connections not just with friends and family but also with the planet

And this comes from a pretty agnostic \ atheist person.

(I guess this is the historian in me, and due to a novel I have actually been readying into the ancient rites... hey at least no temple prostitutes are involved any more!)

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little;
and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick;
and if we got sick, at least we didn't die. So let us all be thankful."

6. Thank you "Blue"!
and the same to you and of course the rest of our family here!! It's been a year of ups and downs for all of us, but we have clung to each other as only loving family would. I know I've been blessed by you all, and hope I've touched a few hearts as well. I will remember you all tomorrow as I sit at the family table, and count my blessings and all of the bounty that is supplied by our Universe! :grouphug: JA

18. Happy Thanksgiving to all at ASAH!
When we gather together with our individual families today, let us not forget to be thankful for all the love & light we receive from our ASAH "family", too. This is truly a special place & the sharing we do here has benefits that reach well beyond our little realm. I feel like we all ripple the good we receive here out to the entire planet. Blessed be.

20. Just wanted to jump into
this hug fest. :)

Thanks, everyone, and Kind of Blue. That's a gorgeous image.

Thought I would share a lovely bit I read today, by Jon Carroll at the SF Gate.

"Gratitude is the antidote. It is a specific against a variety of diseases, from something as vague as the discontents of civilization to something as specific as personal grief - gratitude is the antidote. Thanksgiving is the holiday of gratitude, and I am always willing to celebrate it."

Hope everyone enjoys their day, however they choose to spend it.

(This year even more special since much of my meal is coming from the spider and fairy-filled garden that was attended by myself and a laughing Ho-ti this summer.

It brings home the lesson of gratitude so well... ;) )

31. Thank you All for the incredible well-wishes
to each other. I'm just regaining my senses

I can't tell you how being able to see such goodwill every day during this holiday helped me to get through it!!! Really, I had about a million people - seemed like a million, just 20 in and out of here for 4 days. It was great madness filled with feisty little girls who refused to sleep, cranky 80 year old dad who I have to apologize to - though the argument was not my fault - being a shuttle driver, kids' new boyfriends and girlfriends (I'm deliciously reserving later judgment ) oh yeah, tons of food meaning tons of cleaning and other insanities. The usual holiday with family

Yeah, let's do it again next year! Who's with me??? Not me  No, really there were lots of good times, tons of laughter and no one died from overeating :)

33. You are so funny!

LOL!

Glad you had a glorious holiday, even with all the craziness!

Me? I treasure my quiet, solitary holidays. Everyone thinks I'm crazy, especially when I'm alone over the Christmas holiday, but I look forward to that quiet time like you wouldn't believe. Other than volunteering with Meals-On-Wheels and/or the local shelter or food bank, it is very much ME time, knowing my daughter is having great fun in NYC with her dad and Mark is with his family in Wisconsin.

Just me and the kittehs have the house to ourselves. Yay!!!!

But I'll gladly send hugs of support your way as you and others ready for the next round of family insanity and chaos!! ;)

:bounce:

35. Lucky! No, I don't think you're crazy at all.
OneGrassRoot, before my parents moved here the holidays were nice, quiet mini vacations. All us sisters liked it just fine with occasional meet-ups. Now, they're here and have to see Everybody all at once.
I'll take the hugs of support because Christmas is just around the corner

34. Hold on there, missy
Sounds like you had too good a time and that you really love your family members (despite the occasional argument). Didn't you get the memo? You are required to despise your family members and label all relationships as dysfunctional, or you're not allowed to post on DU. Your tombstone will be delivered in the next half hour or so.

Seriously, so glad you had a "relatively" good time (get it? snarf) and you all survived.

So! What's on for Christmas? :hi:

37. Bring. It. On!
I can handle it! My shiny new dining room laughs at the threat of an influx of people. Ha-HAH!

Hey, I can accommodate a wackjob uber-Catholic aunt who worships Glen Beck--I can handle ANYthing! (Wait...does that mean my family is dysfunctional? Phew--I can stay on DU! :P )

Seriously, I come from a formerly huge Italian family, now sadly shrunken. I miss "the good old days" when we used to have people packed to the rafters for holidays.
