Death and Illness Premonitions or Impressions.
Naturally I have read/heard about these, but never really knew that I got them. Now, maybe so. I'd love to know everyone's experiences, and how these come to you.

My first possible one was years ago, for someone I didn't know well at all, but did know her son and daughter in law. I'm changing the names here. I just suddenly awakened in the morning with a thought. "I need to ask Mary (daughter in law) about Sybel. I knew Sybel was related to the family but thought she might be the sister in law. Anyway, a week later I found out the mother died, and when I read it in the paper, Sybel was the name. This sort of freaked me out. I don't think it was actually a premonition. She died of an infection in a burn that she had had for a week. I think I was picking up the infection running amok.

But I have had two more incidents recently. I had a dream that a very close relative walked down a hallway, and went into a room with Patrick Swayze. I woke up a bit freaked out, and ran a clearing slideshow for this person. That is all I knew to do. But, this ended up being a "near death" thing and the person had had to go to ER, close to death, but now is fine. Whew!

Then, just a couple of weeks later, I had a more traditioal death type dark figure enter my consciousness, as I was rousing awake in the morning. I took that to mean I would hear about a death. It was not attached to anyone that I knew, so I got comfort from that. Still, I was a bit freaked, it having followed so closely the Patrick Swayze room dream. Oddly enough, a couple of days later, someone on DU posted something about a remarkable friend of his that had died. The guy had lived an absolutely dedicated life, and the thread got a ton of recommendations, and I saw it. As it turned out, I had known this person when I was in school, although he was quite a bit older. He had made a huge impression on me back then. I had had no idea how his life had turned out until I read the thread on DU. The whole thing moved me very much. The guy was a total inspiration. I think that the dark person that came to me was the symbol that indicated I would hear of his death (and his life, as it turns out).

All these things indicate to me that I probably do get impressions related to illness and death. So, I guess I would like to know more about this, and hear about other people's experience. I have to say that when older people are pretty sick and then die I don't get any such indications--these come to me when there is some sudden sharp turn. They may be happening at the same time, too--not premonitions in the real sense of the word. As an example with the dark figure-- the person was already dead when I saw that. For some reason I knew to interpret that--I would become aware of a death, or hear of a death. Again, I believe that I made that assumption because it wasn't attached to anyone specific.

I just wondered if my interpretation of these things is correct, and wondering what other people's experiences were with similar type impressions.

1. As long time readers of this forum know, I dream about politicians' spouses
Edited on Thu Nov-26-09 12:40 PM by BlueIris
before said spouses pass away. Typically, the dream is usually of the soon-to-be deceased and the politican. For some odd reason, these are some of the only dreams I have about politicians generally. Which is why I get freaked out whenever I wake up from a dream in which a husband-wife political pair is present, even if the dream is not negative in nature.

I have yet to have a dream, either literal or symbolic, of a person dying or being close to death before that person's demise.

2. I have dreams about pregnancies b/4 the individual knows they are pregnant.
Perhaps this is the flip-side of the death dreams. Re-entry dreams so to speak. I think I prefer having this type of precognition instead of the death dreams.

after it's begun, not so much beforehand. Nice superpower, if you can get it. :-)

4. I have had this happen to me a few times
and am freaked out about every time it happens. So I guess I don't have any advice how to take it in stride but just sympathy that it happens to you too. My mother used to talk about her mother being able to do this with relatives. My grandmother was overcome once by the smell of carnations and 'knew' that a very close nephew had been killed in WW2. As he wasn't in combat but on a base stateside, this was not expected. One of my aunts used to have premonitions with visions of crows as harbingers of death - had one for the same person who was her son. I had a dream earlier this summer re Teddy Kennedy. Or I know what people are going to me tell when they come to tell me of a death. Not sure if that is premonition or just a mind open to hearing about death.

It's freaks me out as I don't know what I am supposed to do with this knowledge. It seems so off the wall and unnecessary and certainly doesn't fit into my world view of a practical universe.

5. Not in dreams, but I can do psychic health/illness diagnoses if I really focus
It was our first "test" when I was studying witchcraft--my elder paired us off and we took turns envisioning a person we knew who had an illness/physical problem, and our partners had to diagnose the illness based on just the name and the age of the person, then we'd switch. We were astounded at how well we all did, because we were in the self-doubting stage.

I can also know if a person is ill just by sight. Not auras--I can't see those unless the person is in a nearly dark room and I cross my eyes and give myself a headache, and sometimes not even then--but just their general appearance and their energy. I've passed people in the mall before and just "known" that they had a heart condition or cancer or whatever. Lately the father of one of my son's friends has been scaring the living daylights out of me. Dude is dark gray. Seriously--he his skin tone is TOTALLY wrong. But I don't know him well enough to ask about his medical history. Just... :scared:

6. It runs in my family.
My aunts on my father's side, my sister and I all have dreams before deaths of people we know. I also had a dream about the 9/11 WTC attack 18 months before it happened. I had no idea what it meant - turns out there were premonition dreams all over the world about it.

7. different kinds of impressions
quite some years back I used to dream of airplane crashes within 3-4 days of them.

The other would be like suddenly blurting out that such and such died, as a kid, shocking parents.

Then there are those actual visits from the person - a friend from my school suddenly died in her early 40's with massive cranial hemorrhage. I had just gone to bed and with a loud crash one of the paintings on my wall fell, that other family members came to my room to see what happened. A few hours later in the middle of the night, I received a call from overseas from a friend I had not spoken to in decades, telling me that Linda had just died, and since she always felt that I was her best friend (I did not know that she felt that way) he called to let me know.

But recently, I have not either paid attention or have not had these kind of impressions.

8. Thanks for all the responses!
I'm just now catching up after having an intestinal virus on Thanksgiving Day! I have to say that everyone has said interesting things. Especially I agree that getting impressions like this is not a barrel of laughs. Now, if it was more specific and predictive, so that something could be avoided, well, that would be another matter.

I would answer everyone but I am still a bit weak. I have to say that I can't ever remember dreaming about a political couple.......about ANYTHING, LOL.

9. Oh ...I have frequent dreams about John Kerry
and his wife Teresa H. Kerry. Always happy dreams...of meeting up with them socially on MY TURF!! It's probably because I missed out on meeting them once when he was running for Pres. (at a certain birthday party for him at a Boston Pub!) It will always be one of my biggest regrets, having been one of the "Kerrycrats" at the time!

10. Cool, I just found this on a numerology site--
I computed that I have a 2 attitude

"The 2 Attitude is easy going. They are very good observers. They're also drawn to anything regarding psychic ability, and often may experience déjà vu. It is not uncommon for them to have a dream that comes true. They are in touch with their intuition and the metaphysical side of life. They do have compassion for people and are fascinated with people's stories. They are seldom bored."

I would say that is my attitude.

It's a lot of fun to listen to her in an interview.

I guess that explains my dreams a bit.
