"Why Do We Enable Religious Intolerance Against the New Age Movement?"
Here is a great site with all kinds of cool articles I thought some of the posters in this forum might find interesting.:)

Love their name New Age Pride...kind of makes you think. Especially on this site when we are called "woos", among other denigrating names, by those who seem to think they know it all. ;)

Why Do We Enable Religious Intolerance Against the New Age Movement?
By Teena Booth

When I first came up with the idea for newagepride.org, I knew that most people of a New Age persuasion were embarrassed or put off by the New Age label, and I wanted to offer them a welcoming community where they’d be able to feel proud of claiming a New Age identity.

I knew it would be an uphill climb. After all, here in America, land of religious freedom, where many different faiths co-exist peacefully, the New Age spiritual persuasion is still openly mocked by the media as something idiotic, or attacked as “dangerous” and “evil” by fundamentalists Christians. When the majority opinion is that your beliefs make you a crackpot or the devil’s handmaiden or both, it becomes difficult to openly espouse those beliefs.

2. This is a great site. Thanks, Desertrose!
I'm certainly not at all ashamed to be among those who are willing to keep an open mind about all things spiritual. :) However, I can understand how some people would be since so many people openly bash our beliefs, if not us as well. It's interesting that we consider people to be tolerant when they only mock our beliefs and not us. Who else would consider that a good thing? However, I'll take it for now since it is progress.

They no longer burn us, at least here in the US. What is still done in other parts of the world is another story. :(

3. I just found it and I need to poke around on it more.
Seems like a lot there....certainly some thought provoking articles.

Yeah, thank heavens they no longer burn us, but there are ways to silence us. Ridicule seems to be the biggie here on DU. I just have no patience for it anymore *sigh* ya know?

Of course this place is the lovely exception to the rule and thank heavens it (still) is! :grouphug:

5. Aww...thanks. We sure did do some serious battles! (whew)
Some good friends gone from here who fought the fight. ( :hi: Eloriel. Miss you sister!!)

It was a joint effort of a lot of good souls, but the neatest thing for me is to see how it's grown and evolved. There are so many really special people here!

6. I really regret that I never posted here while Eloriel was in...
the group. She sounds as though she is an amazing person. It always makes me happy when one of you people who originally founded the group pops in. You created something really special; the Universe used you as instruments to build a really special community. As you know, serious work gets done here that is then taken into the world.

10. The part about poking around the pie, of course

It is a charming 40 degrees with cloudy skies here in Star City -- but I notice that in parts of the southwest -- Enchantmentville -- it is a wicked cool 18 degrees.

That's the kind of morning when you want to share your pie (fruit pie, please) with a friend. Please bring some napkins. Now excuse me while I chow down (see documented action photo).

11. False equivalencies
I have noticed a lot of false equivalencies that come from our liberal side regarding spirituality. They are, thankfully, not prone to call anyone but Christians evil (as the conservatives are known for), BUT some liberals are very quick to say that anyone who has any spiritual beliefs at all is a contributor and apologist for the horror of the Bush Administration and the theocratic desires of the religious right. They can't say "new age" people are hate mongers, or tacitly supportive of hate mongers (as they say about liberal Christians), so everyone else falls into the "dangerous kook" category.

Either way you look at it, there are those who demand people march in lock step on the left as well as the right. Ridicule is the prime weapon of the left while lies and hate are the weapons of those who deem themselves thought police on the right.
