Cider tea
Here's something to warm you up on a chilly November night.

I just got over a pesky 11-day cold that didn't respond the usual home remedies of ginger tea and neti pot.

When I have a cold, I dislike dairy products, including milk in black tea. One morning I wanted to cool down the tea and poured in some refrigerated sweet cider. It was perfect. My daughter, who is fighting the same cold, used cider to cool her ginger tea. Even better!

Another thing I do sometimes is stir a teaspoon of ginger marmalade into regular tea. Orange marmalade is good too.

2. Lucky me
I have some ginger marmalade. Isn't it tea time?

Does anyone know what to do with 103 pounds of quince? So far I've made quince sauce, but it's a lotta work. Who would think one little (12 ft) tree could produce so much.

4. Yes, I love cider tea and use ginger
as much as I can in recipes.

Years ago while in France, I caught a bad cold. My hosts took a bottle of red wine, poured it into a small pot slowly heating it up with some herbs and honey, and topped it off with a cinnamon stick - their version of a hot toddy. The nasty cold was gone within 48hours! And did I say it was delicious? It was delicious :9 and knocked me out into a sound sleep :)

5.  Here's what my mom used to do
My mother was half-Estonian and half-Russian. When someone had a cold, she brewed up a cup of strong tea and put a shot of vodka and a spoonful of berry jam in it. We usually used lingonberry jam. You would drink this, get under a pile of blankets and try to sweat it out of your system. Back in the old country, folks steam themselves in the sauna to fight colds.

6. That's how my parents used to make it but with
brandy instead, in tea with honey and lemon juice. Funny, even though liquor is supposed to burn off, there was still enough in there to make ya tipsy. Loved it as a kid  But I'm not even going to wait for the next cold to try your recipe tea with jam, just got some kumquat jam and marmalade a few days ago and a fresh supply of green tea.
Thanks, LiberalEsto!

7. My Irish family's recipe used whiskey as the liquor for the hot toddy. nt
