My daughter's apartment was burglarized last week.
They stole her laptop. She borrowed money to buy that laptop so she could complete her paralegal training. They stole a roll of quarters that was sitting on her dresser because she was getting ready to do laundry.

She had a small collection of Peruvian coins in her jewelry box. They were not valuable. They were her pocket change that she brought back from Peru as a keepsake. A friend of mine is going to Peru next week. He promised to bring back some coins for her. I want to surprise her with them to try to make her feel better about things.

I hope her insurance comes through on the laptop. She really is not a person who has a lot. I offered to give her my new Mac, which is still in the box. She turned me down. She wants to save her money and get a laptop again. I see why. Anyway, who wants to be dependent on mom for everything?

The Peruvian coins are another matter. The guy who is obtaining them is her friend, too. She will be more accepting of his gesture.

There is so much violence and hurt toward others going on right now. The recent shootings and loss of life leave such a huge scar on the victims and on our entire country. I feel for the shooters, too. The hurt and anger that drove them to be so destructive was not addressed and healed. How little we do for each other! How great the cost can be!

I think my daughter's burglary brought it all home to me with greater force. Why have all these bad things been happening at the same time? How can we help each other?

1. I'm sorry that this happened to your daughter, muriel.
I hope that her insurance comes through.

The compassion that you're showing is what will help to heal the world.

3. We can help each other by helping each other.
I will ask that the Universe send light in order to help her reclaim her lost items/sense of security.

"We can help each other by helping each other." Perfect. and. Simple.

4. sets of Nueva Sol is a relatively easy find. check Kennedy Park venders in Miraflores
they have a sanctioned market in the center of the park for touristy stuff. some interesting stuff is also available, too. sets of coinage is quite easy to find there. it's the smaller, dinky coins -- like the 1 and 5 centavo -- that's a pain to casually find unless you go off into the non-touristy stuff and shop at daily faire places. better to get it as a cheap set; less looking and less leftover "pennies" after a bodega purchase.

however, if you want something really cool, i'd recommend the progressive rock albums available. they fell in love with prog rock and album rock (very Led Zeppelin or Grateful Dead stuff) and have been a leading source of prog rock for Latin America since the '70s, and going strong. if you want a more space-hippy-with-Incan-pan-pipes prog sound, i'd recommend Flor de Loto. however you can't go wrong with classics like Langhoria and Traffic Sound. FYI.
