Only a short time to post, but wanted to get this down quickly. When I first moved to my minifarm, while building the barn one day we were watched by 4 pairs of raptors -- 3 pairs of hawks and 1 pair of bald eagles -- who circled low overhead for several minutes before peeling off in the 4 cardinal directions.
That winter, while sitting at my pc in front of the living room, an eagle flew just over the roof on the addition -- so close that I could see each feather delineated. Since then I've had occasional bald eagle sightings, but rarely from my home and never up close and personal. Usually while driving up the highway a few miles away.
And then last Friday, I was treated to a major event. First a young pair -- one very juvenile and the other with pure white head and tail but mottled body -- started circling over the front yard. Then 3 more adults joined and the 5 of them circled my pasture, along with several ravens. One eagle gave out their unique high-pitched whistle while the ravens cawed. This lasted for at least 10 minutes.
Saturday I was looking out my sunroom windows at my pasture and saw a single bald eagle swoop low across my pasture and land in one of my pines. It still amazes me how incredibly huge they are. So majestic...:o
No sighting on Sunday.
And then Monday, a pair circled my pasture for a while again. And about half an hour later, I had just settled down to study when a truck pulled into my drive. It was a young couple asking about the house. I took them on a tour. They are very interested. They've been looking for a year and are getting desperate to move within a couple months. She's raising chickens and wants to also raise goats. She already has 40 mature chickens...and is raising 40 more in her living room :o. Each flock needs to be kept separate or they will fight and she has no place to put the 40 youngsters when they move outside. My barn -- with 2 12x12 box stalls -- will be perfect. The goats could live in the aisle. The apple orchard is perfect...the chickens eat fruit. The biggest issue is the leachfield -- it's a 2-bedroom and they have 2 full time and 2 part time kids. They're talking it over and will get back to me. Fingers are crossed. I learned the MLT program schedule this afternoon. There is no way I can work past spring and stay in the program...it becomes brutal starting in early June. Absolutely brutal...
