A dream....
This dream has hovered at the edges of my awareness all day, in a soothing, inspiring way. I suppose I should look up potential meanings involved.

I read somewhere (perhaps one of the posts here!) that the evening of October 31, in Celtic lore, is a powerful time, with dreams being prophetic. Being of Celtic heritage and resonating with all things Celtic so strongly, I smiled when I recalled my dream of last night.

It was simple, but beautiful. I wish I could paint a picture of it for you, because the visual was what was so powerful.

It was a normal, hectic day in my dream, with nothing unusual about the beginning of it. As night fell in the dream, a completely different "feel" took over. A sacred feel, dare I say. I looked up to see something I've longed to witness my whole life: northern lights, the aurora borealis.

The image above comes very close (though I wasn't by water). The deep blue and green were the prevalent colors in the display in my dream.

But then, something just as magickal happened. I heard the familiar honking of Canadian geese, then against the dark of the night sky -- with the aurora borealis to my right -- toward my left came "glowing" geese flying toward me.

In my dream I remember thinking they must have come to rest at a spot where something fluorescent was on the ground, thus giving them this golden glow in the night sky, but I also recall thinking there was something a bit more magickal than that taking place.

They headed in one direction, as I headed in the opposite direction, toward the aurora borealis, following it like Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road.

That was it. But what a lovely feeling it has continued to bless me with today.

Just thought I'd share.....

:)

1. Sounds like you're headed toward a place of great beauty.
North to me wd signify the mind and/or the soul maybe. The geese would represent to me high-flying thoughts and ideals announcing joyfully what is to come in your life. And you're finding or about to find a place of peace and tranquility maybe.

You must be doing quite a lot of inner work to have a dream like this.

Of course, you may also have some personal assns that might relate the dream to more mundane things, but the general feeling of the dream really sounds wonderful.

2. What an enchanting dreamscape
I did a search for glowing geese and found this: GEESE/GOOSE Freedom; your soul; wanderlust; foolishness or group conformity. In some cases you might use the goose as a symbol for life long relationship.

It didn't mention anything about glowing, but perhaps the glowing represents Lightness of your Soul.

I think either way it is a good omen.

Thanks for sharing this with us :hi:

3. Stevepol and MagickMuffin...

I've had a few "aha" moments about this dream, especially after investigating the symbolism a bit more (thanks MM :)).

The geese, to me, with the "golden" symbolism had more of the message of the golden egg, not the traditional geese medicine. Interestingly, I read several places that to dream of the aurora borealis deals with intuition, divine feminine energies.

All this coming together plays a huge role in the sequels to a novel I'll be working on, and in the last week I've been pondering the "big picture" as to how to proceed.

It plays in with 2012 but in a much different way than other projects have (and MG's article was another significant sign along the way about this project)...how the shift to the divine feminine is key, and paying attention to intuition and dreams...being more heart centered IS the shift.

Very, very, very interesting. Dreams are my guidance, so this is very powerful for me.

Thanks for sharing. :)

4. dreams like this
You know, OneGrassRoot, maybe this was a dream from your guides.

Maybe they thought you needed a "treat," as they say. :)

Every once in awhile I will get a dream like this. Doesn't happen often and the residual good feeling goes on for days, maybe even weeks. I am in a state of elation. In mine, though, I meet up with my wise women guides. They are all my elders, wise women from the other side. They give me feedback about how I'm doing on my life mission.

5. That is way cool....

:)

I've only had one dream in which I was interacting with a guide, and I only heard the voice...didn't see anyone.

But, you're right. These types of dreams sustain me and give me hope...hope that I am truly being guided and am not alone. :)

6. When an animal spirit shows itself to you...
it does something to show you it is of Spirit. In this case, the spirit of Geese has shown itself to you in a magical and spiritual way.
I believe it is your spirit helper showing itself to you..your Totem.
You were also shown your direction.
We each have our own direction but we also move around the wheel of life/medicine wheel in our lessons and by the way we perceive the world.

13. I agree....

I always pay attention when animals make their presence known to me. :)

The hawk is my life totem, of that I have no doubt. But others come and go as I journey along, and evidently the geese have made themselves known through this dream.

It is UBER special that they were golden against a dark night sky. I don't recall seeing or hearing them at night, only during the day, so there's something significant with that tidbit as well.

Even though Canadian geese (and I know as I type this that "Canadian geese" is a misnomer, but I still call them that...lol) are found I believe throughout the States, and they are here in NC year round, I still associate them with Canada and the North. In my dream, they were flying FROM the North, heading South, while I ventured northward toward the lights.

So interesting. I adore message dreams -- when they have a decidedly "ahhhhhh" feel to them, rather than the "WTF?" vibe. :)

7. What a wonderful dream!
Dreams have significance on many different levels.

I notice you mention the honking of the geese, which is a very evocative sound for me, growing up as I did near a wildlife refuge. Every Spring and Fall the honking of geese was like trumpets heralding the new season. In this case I'd say the season they herald is Fall, since it is Fall and the aurora borealis can be seen in colder, northern parts of the world. So at a very basic level, maybe this dream is just preparing you for a new season.

It also occured to me that the glowing geese might be angels watching over your as you make your way to a new place. The thought just struck me as soon as I read your post. Take it for what it's worth to you.

This is a wonderful calming set of images. I can see why it felt so good to have this dream.

15. You're so right, Callie...

There is very much a seasonal aspect to my dream, though I didn't realize it until you mentioned it.

In fact, that made me recall that they were specifically SNOW geese....all white, with the golden glow....so that is another element for me to follow up on.

Thanks! :)

Both of us have Celtic ancestry, however, my dream was more sinister and darker. (I put it up in a separate post if you are curious about what I'm talking about.) Anybody else dreaming about water?

10. After reading this, my attention started jumping from thing to thing
like a stone skipping across water. I wanted to meditate on the meaning of the light, but instead I fixated on the geese. The geese made me think of the magical swans of Celtic mythology. Thinking of the swans made me remember WB Yeats' poem, "The Wild Swans at Coole" and suddenly I felt the urge to post it. Not sure if it will open up any more doors to insight, but here 'tis, as I have appear to have been commanded by a higher power. ;)

The Wild Swans at Coole

The trees are in their autumn beauty,
The woodland paths are dry,
Under the October twilight the water
Mirrors a still sky;
Upon the brimming water among the stones
Are nine and fifty swans.

The nineteenth Autumn has come upon me
Since I first made my count;
I saw, before I had well finished,
All suddenly mount
And scatter wheeling in great broken rings
Upon their clamorous wings.

I have looked upon those brilliant creatures,
And now my heart is sore.
All’s changed since I, hearing at twilight,
The first time on this shore,
The bell-beat of their wings above my head,
Trod with a lighter tread.

Unwearied still, lover by lover,
They paddle in the cold,
Companionable streams or climb the air;
Their hearts have not grown old;
Passion or conquest, wander where they will,
Attend upon them still.

But now they drift on the still water
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lake’s edge or pool
Delight men’s eyes, when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?

11. I hope you don't mind my sharing last night's dream
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 09:59 AM by Sanity Claws
Thanks for telling us your dream, OGR, and sharing the Celtic views of dreams at this time of year.
I really can't help you in interpreting the dream except to say it must portend wonderful things.

I had at least three dreams last night but don't worry, I won't bore you with all of them. ;)

In one I was a caged lion pacing back and forth. I understood it meant that I have a lot of pent up energy and drive and I just want to let out of my cage. In real life, I have felt very confined for a couple of years. I hope this is a sign I'm about to be let out and will have the energy and drive to make most of whatever presents itself.

In another, someone explained why a young woman got the job instead of me. The young woman was wearing a hat and I saw her eyes -- deep deep blue. I didn't like the fabric she had around the brim of the hat (white with a small floral pattern of pastel pink, blue and maybe other colors) and suggested she put a ribbon like the deep deep blue of her eyes around her hat instead.
In explaining why I didn't get the job, the man referred to a story I wrote and said he liked my use of Pavarti in it. I said I like Hindu mythology.
I felt that the man was encouraging my writing while telling me that the job was not for me.

In the third dream, plans to plant fruit trees was part of it.

I take all three as signs that my long awaited changes are finally going to happen.

OGR, I hope you're right that these dreams are prophetic.

16. Please, feel free to share all of them!

I've always been fascinated by dreams. I have a feeling most, if not all of us here feel the same way. :)

I don't ever recall dreaming that I was an animal. That would be SO COOL!!!!! I would tend to agree with your assessment. The combination of the dreams does give that feeling of change of some sort. I thought it was significant that, in the second dream, you "helped" the young woman who got the job instead of you. Very giving instead of feeling resentful.

I'll find where I read that about the Celtic tradition and Samhain and post later. :)

18. It is tons of fun to shape-shift in dreaming...
There is a danger however of indulging too much.
Once during a lucid dream where I had been shapeshifting...I was about to pounce on a mouse to eat it before I realized that I was still in my hawk shape...I quickly returned to my own form as soon as I realized I had gotten so "lost" to my own self in being a hawk and I felt slightly ill at the thought that I almost ate a mouse..:S heheh heh...

23. The first time I shape-shifted..I turned into water
and poured off the side of the old tree stump I was sitting on (in my astral dreaming body) and into the ground. The second time I shapeshifted was during the same atral projection as I was swimming forward through the earth and I shifted into a manta ray form.
The third time I ever experienced shape shifting I came up out of my physical body in my astral dreaming body and shifted into the form of a raven..the weird part was feeling my eyes move to the side of my head and my face forming a beak.:P
I have shifted many times in the many years since then and it is a lot of fun.
Lucid dreaming/conscious astral projection is such freedom it is just wonderful and tons of fun.
You are only limited by your own mind at that point. Anything you can think of..you can do.

21. Snow Geese, animal medicine...and synchronicity

For those interested in animal wisdom, I thought I'd follow up by sharing the animal wisdom I just found pertaining to snow geese, which were a significant part of my dream. "Golden" snow geese. :)

But check this out: When I Googled to find it, the first site that popped up is my dear friend's site!!! She's going to be so excited that I "stumbled" upon her site in this way.

I swear, all snow geese must be Virgos. This describes me to a T. :)

http://www.apathtowholeness.net/essences/animal-totem-essences/birth-totem-snow-goose

SNOW GOOSE

Determination ~ Resourcefulness

Persevering, determined, and ambitious to a fault, the Goose Totem sets goals for accomplishment, and always obtains them. The Goose is determined to succeed at all costs ~ not for the approval of others, but Goose Totem competes with their own internal foe. Driven is Goose Totem's dominating personality trait. If you want something done, give it to the Goose!

The Snow Goose has been called 'goose from beyond the north wind' because of the direction these geese go when they migrate in the spring. Some species of Snow Goose travel 5,000 miles each year, flying in a loose V pattern, usually with a female in the lead.

The Snow Geese are very gregarious. It is not unusual to see 20,000 or 30,000 birds all stopping to eat at the same location. At their nesting grounds, they show respect for tradition by allowing the experienced nesters to have the first choice of sites. Both goose and gander stay with the eggs.

Snow Geese are nitpickers. They will spend hours picking mosquitoes or other insects off each other. Working with the Snow Goose Totem can teach you about the creative mystery, the universal powers, tradition, perfection, stability, community, ceremony, vision, and evolution.

People with Snow Goose Birth Totem usually have above-average abilities to both understand the magical kingdoms and to learn how to use their supernatural powers. In addition, they all share a need to ground themselves and to learn how to be of the earth as well as the sky. Many of such people possess the power of rejuvenation and can become healers if they develop their psychic powers. They also need to let their emotions flow freely and to learn to trust other people.

Birth Totem Snow Goose is an individual whose outer personality is one of quiet determination and resourcefulness. As one who is born under the Birth Totem of Goose goes about their daily life, they are conscious of the need to preserve all resources, both their own internal energies, and the resources of nature.

They have the great quality of endurance, which allows them to continue in pursuit of life's objectives over long periods of time. They know how to make the most out of their energy, plotting and planning their moves so that they can produce the most effective results. Goose souls may become so single-minded in their drive to provide a safe nest for their mate and offspring, that the relationship to these loved ones may suffer as a result. Because they can become so driven and focused, Birth Totem Snow Goose may lose sight of those aspects that make life truly enjoyable, the connection to other souls along the journey of life.

In addition, while their own personal integrity in how they approach and operate in life is usually above reproach due to their high standards of honesty, the ultimate lesson for these souls to learn from Goose Totem is the need to balance material and physical aims with spiritual and emotional connections.

Practical and materialistic, Snow Goose people rarely respond to emotional appeal and dislike anything that smells of hypocrisy.

Tradition is important to those born under this Totem, and they search the past in order to find meaningful guidelines for the future. They are hard working and have great stamina, and they are cautious about making too many changes in their lives.

If Geese show themselves as your Totem, consider your role in your family, work-place or community. Geese form strong family units that stay together beyond the breeding season, traveling to winter territory and later returning to familiar grounds. If the Goose is your Totem, it may be time to reach out for help or support and work together to accomplish more than double what you can do alone. Snow Geese travel in groups that can reach the tens of thousands, so joining a large organization and striving for the greater good may be your purpose now. The message of the Snow Goose Totem is to band together and enjoy the benefits of cooperation and belonging.

Goose Totem teaches vigilance and protection. Ask anyone who lives on a farm, or out in the country, what the best breed of dog is to get for a watchdog, and they will almost certainly tell you ~ 'a goose'. Geese have become notorious for their fearless defense of their homeland, often chasing off animals such as dogs or other predators with their enormous size and formidable honking noise.

People with Snow Goose Totem have a talent for communicating, especially writing, and they draw upon the innocent imagination of childhood to make their point with stories.

With Birth Totem Snow Goose, you are open to new ideas, to spiritual quests, and to physical travel. However, you should be cautioned to have all the facts at hand before setting out on new adventures ~ both physical and metaphysical. Be prepared to have your imagination take fire, and be ready for new experiences and fulfilled dreams.

If the Goose is at hand, it's time to move forward with your life. Move with care and enjoy. Be flexible. Let go of the old and allow yourself to gracefully move into your new self.

24. Does this resonate?
The animal symbolism of the goose hasn't got its full honor. Too often in myth and lore we see the goose representing silly attitudes or lazy dispositions.

On the contrary, the symbolism of the goose is quite inspiring.

When we consider the goose never leaves one of its own kind behind, we begin to see the goose in a different light. Just like the US Marines, "Semper Fidelis" (always faithful) is the motto of the goose too.

Geese annually migrate to warmer climates during the winter. Should a goose become injured during this trek, another goose will leave the migrating flock to stay with its fallen comrade. The goose will stay with the injured until he has recovered or until its final breath. Nothing silly about that.

Indeed, this kind of valor puts the symbolism of the goose in a far different light. Here are some attributes of the goose:
Communication
Determination
Fellowship
Teamwork
Confidence
Protection
Bravery
Loyalty

Geese are incredibly gifted navigators and instinctively know the way across the long haul to warmer climates. They forge ahead with confidence and bravery.

Further, geese have intricate methods of communication - not only do they sense when their brethren are in trouble, they also work as a team to communicate warnings, as well as messages of prime landing sites.

Geese are also fiercely protective of their young - often presenting an impressive thrashing display to would-be predators. These scare tactics often work to protect goslings from attack.

Those who have the goose as their animal totem need not worry if they are silly or lazy. This is far from the truth. In actuality, those who are kind, loyal, and brave-hearted attract geese as their totem. Those with the goose totem are the clear communicators, true-blue defenders and compassionate keepers of the community.

Lessons we all can learn from our totem geese include:
Remember your roots - don't forget the people who helped you along the way
Follow your gut - rely on intuition and instinct in order to get where you need to be
Communicate your needs to others - no one can help you if you don't speak out
Protect that which is most valuable, but make sure you have your priorities straight (meaning, be sure you're protecting that which is worth protecting)
