Holy crap! Red alert! Calling all sage bundles!
zOMG you guys would not BELIEVE the morning I've had--and it's only 8:40! Usually I love waking up to a steady rain, but not this time.

First, when I opened my eyes in the darkness around 7 a.m. I immediately focused on the sound of a steady *thunk* ... *thunk* ... *thunk* ... You know, the kind that means your ROOF IS LEAKING? Sure enough, Mr. MG went up in the crawlspace a short while later and found that one of the "fixes" or "improvements" the previous owner had attempted had (predictably) failed--apparently he tried to put a vent stack into the roof, failed, gave up, but didn't replace the board that he had knocked out--just put roof shingles over it. Niiiice. (Typical.) At least he didn't try to just caulk it. He caulked EVERYthing.

Then Mr. MG, who has been having trouble with the alarm system in his car, went outside to get his travel mug and found that the Saab (or is it HAL?) decided to open all the windows AND the sunroof in the middle of the night. I dug out the towels. This means another expensive car repair, I can smell it.

THEN I turned on my 'puter, and the startup process stopped at a screen I had never seen before--it showed my hard drive icon, and I had to click on an arrow to choose it to continue the startup. The 'puter seems to be acting normally now, but I am backing up my document folder and my iTunes purchases as I type.

Oh--and the neurotic pisspot feline outdid herself in the location for a stealth poop--on two of the steps on the back staircase. Ew. (She has a hairball and is upset that she can't hork it up, so she poops out of spite. Doesn't make sense, but then again, she never makes sense.)

What. The. Hell. It's like Mercury retrograde without Mercury being retrograde, only worse. I think I smell a pwka that may have blown in on the winds of the thinning of the veil. Once I calm down, I'm going in search of my sage bundle. I wish I could have smudged Mr. MG before he left for work, but then again, somebody might think he'd been smoking something he shouldn't have. Drat that the scents are similar!

And how is YOUR Wednesday going? :hi:

1. LOL!
:spray:

Oh my goodness, I am truly sorry for the horrible day you're having, but YOU CRACK ME UP!!!!!!!!!

You're simply brilliant.

I hope all the ickiness has ended, without any sequelae from the events, and the rest of the day flows smoothly.

As always, I send many hugs of support (and gratitude for the chuckles!)...

3. I finally had some coffee; now I can LOL too

But day-um, that was one of the most stressful mornings I've had in a long time!

All quiet on the western front at the moment. I have called the roofers--trustworthy folks we have used before--and we're on their work-order list. Luckily, Mr. MG said, the leak sounded worse than it actually looked. He said it doesn't have to be done today--just sometime in the next few weeks or so.

At the moment I am kicking back to regroup, drinking mah coffee and watching an illegal torrent (like I care!!! LOL) of last night's premiere episode of the latest short series by my favorite guy--James May's Toy Stories. (He makes life-size versions of favorite kids' toys from his youth--this ep he's dragging a bunch of 13 YOs away from their XBoxes to make a life-size model airplane. It's quite cool.)

Thanks so much for the support!

2. yikes
Blessings from afar............

I thought you guys got a new roof. They didn't find this?

Take care the rest of the day, for sure.

It IS good that you can at least almost see the humor in this.

4. Ta for the blessings, C

We didn't get a new roof, no (one of the few things we DIDN'T get new, actually)--but when the contractors who fixed up the back of the house took down an old cinderblock chimney stack, they did have to repair the cutout in the back sleeping porch roof and the gutter (where the chimney had been). This leak was closer to the front of the house, just above MG Jr's closet (where, fortunately, there's a small trap door, so Mr. MG was able to climb a ladder and shine a flashlight into the crawlspace to see what was going on).

Sigghhhh gotta see the humor, right? If not, that just means more gray hairs. ;)

8. Egad, I didn't have time to cry!
This was all going on while I was trying to get the kid suited up for a downpour and bundle him off to school, too--and we all know how first-graders aren't exactly keen on moving quickly! Chaos of epic proportions!

It's been quiet so far, although my mom and my Catholic-fundie, Bush-lovin', Rush/Hannity/Beck listenin' aunt are coming over in about an hour to go "shopping" for MG Jr's birthday (I bought a mess of toys and they're going to pick which ones will be from them).

And yes, I already checked to make sure there's a full bottle of wine for dinner tonight. I mean, WITH dinner--yeah, that's the ticket! :P

And oh, this, too: the joys of an old house!

Hey, we have to pay something for all that character, yes?

When life gives you lemons and leaky roofs and all that, right? ;)

Too right about old houses. We certainly pay a TON for all that character. (Actually, the old house would have been all right if a couple of idiot owners had been absent from its history--!)

7. nothing broken here except
me. I woke up too early, grouchy, grouchy, grouchy. Poor little bouncy Luna who greets each day with wagging tail, running in circles like it's something to actually look forward to, ruined my attempt at gently easing myself out of the warm bed and into the cold world. Headachey, raw around the edges, ready for crying jag but ending up wanting to scream bloody murder. x( x( x(

Other than that, everything here is just. peachy. keen. not. :hi:

(btw, although it seems like mercury retro -- my new 'puter acted funny booting up last night, but has been fine since -- I think it's Saturn leaving Virgo. Farewell kick in the patuschka and all that.)

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of "bouncy bouncy bouncy" early in the morning either (in my case it's a kid and two hungry cats). Hope your headache eases up (could it be the rainy front coming, from us toward you?)

So Saturn leaving Virgo can do this, huh? Ya learn something new every day. Now...when does it STOP?

18. Oh, wind is the worst
I'm air magic, and I love wind, but we had a couple of nasty windstorms in the spring, when Mr. MG was away, and I didn't sleep well at all, wondering what all those noises outside were (and if any parts of the house were blowing away). Hope things calm down for you soon! :hi:

14. Oh dear, that sounds very 'retrograde-y'
WTF?
I hope you are managing better now, but I can't even imagine what you can do about all your morning crazies! sheesh!

sage sounds like a great idea for starters, perhaps a little salt sprinkled in your corners would help ward away the baddies. I think the brownies and gnomes have been more active this Hallowmas for sure...keys missing and things like that breaking for no apparent reason. I am just glad the washing machine hasn't tried to dance!
(Our new kitten brought us ringworm, have to wash EVERYTHING in bleach & hot water, spray bleach & water on all surfaces, vacuum - bleach inside of vacuum, then vacuum again...lovely house cleaning HELL)

It's the curse of being 'head-witch' (read:mom) of your home...all the goonies and pranks and other 'what NOW' things end up in YOUR lap! ack!

 at least we can laugh...right?

19. WTF indeed!
The roofers (just the lackeys, not the big guy) already came and caulked around the leaky vent pipe, but Mr. MG says that won't help when the snow load is heavy. So we're going to have them come back and fix it properly.

Head witch--LOL! I love it! I've always been the magic-worker in the house, so it's no big deal, but I haven't had to neutralize mischievous bugaboos in ages. Busy year!

I laughed out loud at the description of his attempted roofing fix

I'm doing okay other than being out of my mind (had to take some hydrocodone in the middle of the night; I'll be glad when I'm working again so I can get back to my dentist for more scheduled work...)

Gotta clean the cat box in a while, when the room stops spinning

Oh yeah, and I still check my gmail for a couple of awaited emails...

Kid just went back to school yesterday after a full six days incapacitated with a fever and other ickies, so I'm still getting back into my routine! Patience, grasshopper! :D

Are you still having dental owwies? Sending light for you.

Sigh. I've gotta clean the litter boxes too, tonight. Garbage pickup tomorrow. Ick. At least I had the foresight to warn Mr. MG "The zinfandel is mine--go gitcher own bottle!"

Nah, no way I'd ever be able to function after even just two glasses, but I still want to reserve the right not to have to fight over the vino!

24. I hope everyone's doing better now

I know that's a lot to go through. I have always hated getting the flu when I live alone and had few to zero in-person friends. Luckily, that's not the case anymore as I have a good neighbor to help out now. Too bad I can't get him to do the cat box :P

The dental stuff had been on-going until I got laid off and I'm still in debt for it. So, until I can pay the dental credit card down and a regular credit card, I just bide my time, keep things clean and take the leftover painkillers as needed. Oh, I read that some painkillers can be used as much as fifteen years after the "expiration date" :o

I like wine (white only) but as it's only me, I have to drink it in a couple of days or I end up tossing out half a bottle. I think I go through vodka faster

Oh, and I'm breaking in a new pair of shoes, that got delivered to a neighboring apartment complex! We have some really sloppy postal carriers around here... Here's the site for them, in black, and not pictured: http://www.rawganique.com/FootwearDock.htm

27. more mini mercury retro madness
Last week, my housekey fell off keyring in work parking lot, even though I was holding it very carefully. Next day nobody had turned it in to security. I checked around lot a few times == no key.

Tonight at work somehow my purse, with desk key *inside* it, managed to get locked *inside* my desk. :wtf:

I was about to go see security to get pass key when security sent out an email -- somebody had just picked up a key with a little plastic red house on it. That would be mine.

Went to security to get my key and told him my purse and deskkey were locked *inside* my desk. That is, for the record, a physical impossibility. I got a lot of :wtf: looks. Told him I'm living inside the twilight zone these days.

Anyway, got my house key and my purse back! :P
