How big is your cat?
Meet Skipper, a 2 year old cat who weighs just 6 pounds.

She was a feral cat born in a mountainous area of West Virginia. We took her in when she was still a kitten. It was the first cat we ever had and we never gave her size much thought until we adopted a second cat from a shelter. The second cat is 13 pounds, over twice as big as Skipper!

Wow, we thought our second cat was huge.

We started telling our cat-owner friends about this huge 13 pound cat we adopted, and they looked at us like we were crazy. Almost everyone else's cats are a lot bigger than 13 pounds. What they found amazing was our little 6 pound cat.

So, anyone else have a small cat like Skipper?

1. I've never had a really small cat
Lily, my half-Abyssinian female has a small frame and would probably weigh about 8 pounds at her normal weight, but she is 11 pounds because she's a fat cat. Pad Thai, my male Siamese is about 10 pounds and he's large boned, I think, for a pure-bred Siamese. I had one cat that was a whopping 16 pounds, some fat some just size. Most of my cats have ranged from 10-14 pounds for most of their lives, the males in most cases weight more than the females.

2. My Aby Moe . .
is 11 years old and weighs a little over 5 pounds. His sister Maggie weighs in at 10 pounds. Moe was the runt of the litter.

So much loving packed into his small body!

3. My peanut, Blue,
only weighed 5.5 lbs. Her personality made up for what she lacked in mass. It's funny, even though she was so thin, she was the cuddliest kitty I ever had.

My other meezer, Skye, weighed ~15 lbs at the most, and is now a more healthy 13 lbs.

4. my smallest ever was just 7 pounds
which she weighed as soon as she reached adulthood and for all of her 13 years. Sadly, we just lost her a couple of months ago and miss the little dear terribly.

The biggest one I've ever had is my Boo, he weighs in at 16 lbs. His nickname is BFB. (Big Fat Boo!) A friend of ours has a giant tuxedo male named Moishe that is about 22 lbs!

6. I had a small cat
Nightmare weighed 5 pounds when she died at age 15. She went from being really fat (10 pounds on her tiny frame) to 5 pounds within 2 years because of hyperthyroidism. Her normal weight probably was around 7 pounds.

Her son, Smoke, is 14 and weighs 7.5 pounds, down from 12 pounds. He also has hyperthyroidism, and is a bit skinny. His normal weight is probably around 9 pounds.

Sterling, my silver persian, is about 10 pounds, and a little underweight, but not much. He's 10 years old.

Peace,
Bella

9. My cats aren't fat- they're fluffy
People are amazed when they see my cats. Geneva is around 15 lbs and Annie is probably 12.

I will admit they are a little chubby but they are also just on the big side to begin with.

I hope to (finally) be able to post pics soon.

My family did have one little guy - Fitzie - when I was growing up who was only about 6 lbs.

10. Not the smallest
I guess Skipper is definately on the small side, but not the smallest! I have to admit she's not aware that she's tiny, she is an alpha cat and bullies and teases our 13 pound cat unmercifally. She bullies us, too. :hide:

12. 6 lbs is pretty small
My cat Manilla is around 11 lbs (he's very long and sleek). Morty probably weighs around 13 lbs (although I'm not sure--he's gained some weight recently). Morty is the complete opposite of Manilla--he's short and chunky.

13. My Jamie weighs between 6 and 7 pounds
She's 17 1/2 with a thyroid condition but otherwise is in good health. At her heaviest, she weighed 8-9 pounds. Some cats are just small

14. The Little was tiny and malnourished
when she came to live with us. The Russians she lived with as a kitten dumped her in their yard when they went back for a 2-week visit to the Motherland. When our friend found this kitten yelling outside his front door, she was malnourished, dehydrated, and had worms, fleas, ticks and ear mites.

We brought her to the vet several months later, and he chuckled and said "12 pounds! What has Little been eating!?". I wanted to ask our rotund doc what HE'D been eating, but it's hard to find a great vet that the cat obviously adores, so I kept quiet. But not quiet enough - was telling this story at a party recently, and someone yelled "Who's your vet? Dr. Connor? He's in the kitchen! Hey! Dr. Connor!!! Come'ere!!"

How embarrassing.

My big cat weighs about 18lbs. He's pretty solid but could stand to lose some weight.

19. I like itsy bitsey cats
That's why I named mine Bitsey. She is just a little bit of a thing. I'll bet she only weighs 5.5 lbs. Her size is no object. She goes over and slaps up the neighbors' bulldogs whenever she feels like it.

My other cat isn't much larger. She got fat once but went on her own self-induced diet and has stayed slim since then. She's only about 6 or 6.5 lbs. She doesn't slap anybody, though. Not the type.

I wouldn't object to having a large cat. My husband wants to get a big cat like a Maine coon. I would love to have one because I've heard their personalities are fun.

22. My parents have a cat
who is 2 but he still looks like a kitten. He's probably around 6-8 lbs, if that. He looks exactly the same as he did when he was 6 months old.

They also had a cat who was 30lbs! They did not know why the cat was that fat, he was on all sorts of kitty diets, and they made sure he wasn't eating the other cat's food. He was just fat.

26. She looks a lot like Skipper, too
What I can't figure out is why Skipper stays so skinny. Our second cat eats like there's no tomorrow, yet Skipper eats just enough to keep her at her current weight.
