How long is too long?
I'm leaving for my parents' house on Thursday for the holiday weekend & will be back on Sunday. Is this too long to leave my 2-year-old cat - even with plenty of water, food & clean litter? I don't want to board her because, for those of you who read my other post about Allie, she's a bit stressed out right now due to the fact that I recently moved into a new house with my boyfriend and his dog.

The dog will be gone as well for the long weekend, so I thought this might be a perfect opportunity for Allie to grow accustomed to the house and establish some territory. I've left her for 2-day weekends before & she's been fine - but do you all think 4 days is too long?

1. Can you..
get someone to come in on Saturday to check on her and give her fresh water and food? That's what I normally do whenever I go away...

4. I agree- is there anyone she knows who could just stop by?
She should be OK but I personally hate leaving my babies alone for that long.

be missing you for Fri and Sat. Is she not used to you leaving her alone for a day or 2? Cats do fine, leave a window blind up so she can see out. Hide some kitty treats and catnip filled toys. Leave a TV on and she'll be fine.

I have those gravity auto waterer and feeder bowls I have 3 cats and they will love the solitude. The dogs are going to the kennel.

3. She should be fine.
I have gone away on occasion for a long weekend Thurs-Sun and have not had a problem. I just left lots of dry food and water and she was fine. Don't leave out the canned wet food as it might go bad.

5. She Will Probably Do Ok But
if possible as others suggested can someone just stop by to make sure the cat is doing ok and not sick at all? Otherwise that is just another great thing about cats they are sure lower maintenance than dogs. Of course I have three of each so I may be crazy anyway!

6. I've left mine for that long, and she does fine.
Mine likes to drink out of the toilet, so all I have to do is
put down a couple of large bowls of dry food and a virgin litter
box and she's good to go.

She does ignore me for several days afterwards as punishment for
not being here to obey her commands though.

7. I'd have a sitter stop by at least once
personally I think four days is two days too long. Get her an automatic feeder and water fountain to keep her food and water fresh if you can. Water should be changed daily if it isn't being refreshed in a fountain.

8. You may want to have someone come by and check...
...on her. Just leave plenty of food and water. As others have suggested, the auto-replinishing ones are great. If someone comes by at least once, she'll at least know she's being looked after. Also, leave some toys out for her. She should be OK.

9. Thanks everyone.
I have a friend stopping by on Saturday to check on her - I'd be way too worried otherwise! And, as someone else said, I'm sure I'll be punished when I return ... as she can be quite the drama queen! Again, thanks everyone - and have a happy Thanksgiving! :)

10. I would worry about the litter box, since I cleaned mine at least
once a day. If it was me, I'd feel better having someone stop in to check on her, to clean the box at least once and to make sure that she hadn't upset her food and to give her fresh water. Most cats don't drink enough. You might want to consider getting a fountain, since they are more likely to drink. Good luck!:-)
