Found these while cruising ebay's antique books/documents section and thought some of you might find it interesting:
Ever wondered how your 3 X Great-Grandfather might have taken care of sick horses, cows, and other livestock? The book, "Pow Wow’s or Long Lost Friend," by John George Hohman, printed by the Star Book & Novelty Co., Camden, New Jersey, 1828 – an update to the original, published in 1820, shows how. This book contains many spells, incantations, folk remedies, and other folklore from the early days of our country. John George Hohman was a Pennsylvania Dutch healer in the 1820’s. ‘Pow-Wow’ is a unique mixture of Christian theology and a shamanistic belief system, also known as Hoo Doo. It is still practiced in some rural areas of Pennsylvania. In spite of the name, it is not of Native American derivation. German immigrants who practiced folk-magic brought it to America. The book includes healing spells, binding spells, protective spells, talismans, wards and benedictions – it pays particular attention to spells and potions to cure cattle and horses and to protect one from wounding, thievery, and witches....cont'd

This is cute and the prints might even look good framed for a child's room (for a Christmas gift):
"Comical Pets ABC" McLoughlin Bros Book Dtd 1899
Here is an early child's book by McLoughlin Bros. It is entitled "Charming Pets ABC" and has wonderful chromolithigraphs of children and their Pets. It measures a little under 8 by 10" and has 10 pages, not including the covers. Half of them are in color and three examples are shown below. Although the cover is coming loose from the inside pages, there is spine wear, and there are a couple of areas where the pages are creased on the bottom, the illustrations are gorgeous and there is little if any other damage on the pages themselves. The pictures of Pug dogs, cats and barnyard animals are really wonderful. The book is dated 1899.
