New Cat
He's a tiny little all gray short hair. He appeared in my office. I guess he wandered in thru' the door, which is just a fence like metal door (we usually leave the inside doors open.)
Then he was hiding on some boxes on shelves. I kept hearing him but it took me 6 hours to find him.
My existing cat is hissing. He hasn't attacked him.
The other one died about 2 years ago, so he was lonely. He kept looking for the dead one. So now he's unhappy about a new kitten.
The existing cat is about 20 or more, and he's been with me for about 19 years.
It takes time, but hopefully, they will peacefully co-exist.

1. The ones that find you...
I think they're sent by those who've gone on before...and for a reason.

Best of luck with your new little 'un ...and here's to peaceful coexistance!:toast:

2. I bet you have a real treasure
If your new kitty looks like your avatar, then you have a Russian Blue type, like I do. (And no, I'm not saying pure bred, but the all grey short hair domestics that carry a great many of the traits of the Russian Blue breed)

This is what I wrote about mine once when someone here asked if people were drawn towards a particular color or type of cat:

I'm completely addicted to the Russian Blue

They are all grey with silver tipped fur that makes them look like a velvet blue/grey cat. They have large greenish eys and an intelligent face with a smiling mouth.

Mine is the funniest, smartest cat I've ever had in a lifetime of cat ownership. He had such a quirky collection of behaviors that I googled the breed and found almost all his traits! They are supposed to be among the smartest. The things that they often do that mine does are: collect toys, play fetch, obsessively knock things off from heights, incredibly playful and athletic, talkative, graceful. We think ours is working on his language skills and will surprise one day with a complete sentence

Mine hates being held but loves to sit next to you or on top of your feet. He follows me from room to room like a dog. He has a bit of a foot fetish and loves to jump on your feet under the covers in the morning. Once I was looking idly on Craigslist and saw someone giving away a Russian Blue because it like to jump on her little girls feet in the morning, so I guess that could be another thing they do.

After living with our little weirdo, I don't know that I could do without. Before him we've had a wonderful tuxedo, a great orange tabby, a troubled grey tabby, and a little minature Maine Coon. All just great cats, but Eddie takes the cake. So if you see one ever at a shelter or a pound, just remember that not liking being held does not indicate a lack of affection.

3. We rescued a 4 week old kitten, she is now 12 weeks
I have a 15 year old female and a 5 year old neurtered male. The old lady hissed and snarled at the baby up until about 2 weeks ago. The male, amazingly, took her in. He's like a big brother to her, she follows him everywhere and does everything he does. She has learned to clean herself, litterbox, jump, play all from him. The female is tolerant, but she was the same way when I brought the male into the house 5 years ago, it actually took her longer to accept him, it took 3-4 months.

They should be fine, let time run its course. If the older cat is hurting the baby, then it's time to interact. Once he figures out the baby is not going anywhere, he will accept I am sure.

4. He is a domestic shorthair. No special breed. He does like to be
held, but I have to catch him first. His new companion/future companion is currently avoiding him, or hissing at him.

5. He is a complete sweetheart nonetheless.
Sorry for jumping to the conclusion that your avatar looked like your new kitty.

He has the sweetest little face.

When I introduced my little guy my older Maine Coon cat did not really take to him, I think she was just apalled at his energy and rambunctiousness. It took awhile, but they have come to an accomodation and occasionally they actually romp and play and chase each other.

9. They'll do just fine
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 10:55 PM by Submariner
I suppose you do realize they are telepathically talking about you.

The older one is prolly saying "Humor him and pose for his picture. If we look cute enough he is such a sucker he will shift into staff mode and get us some yummy kibble treats....he's such a tool.....meow cheese."

10. Actually,
that's quite good lighting for a moody sort of portrait. And while you might low-rent your ability as a photographer, that is a wonderful, elegant photo just the same.
