1. Don't know about bad...
...but three of my monsters will perform miracles...MIRACLES :wow:
for the chance of cream cheese...

They don't get it very often or very much, what with cats being lactose-intolerant and it giving them the trots and all...
but they do like it.

2. I have old dogs and dispense a number of pills everyday
One dog gets a pill in the morning and another in the evening. The other dog gets three pills in the morning and another in the evening. We've been following that routine for over a year now. What I've found works best is the cheapest plastic wrapped slices of processed cheese. I fold the cheese slice into quarters and then into sixteenths. A sixteenth of a slice of cheese is adequate to wrap and conceal all three of those morning pills. The cheapest cheese is sticky enough to adhere into a small little ball concealing the pills. Better cheese tends to drier and more crumbly. Doggies think it is a before dinner treat. Works like a charm. It isn't so much cheese that they tire of it - or that it otherwise disrupts their digestive system or normal diet. We tried lots of other things including pill pockets, peanut butter and cream cheese. The cheese slices seem to work the best for us.

Assuming you're just using enough cream cheese to camouflage the pills I doubt that low fat cream cheese is harmful to your dogs. Fats can cause pancreatitis and it takes surprisingly little fat to do so in a small dog. I have long suspected that some dogs tend to be somewhat lactose intolerant as I've noticed my dogs tend to become somewhat flatulent if they consume a lot of dairy or if they consume dairy frequently. But that doesn't seem to be an issue for you.

3. Thanks, will try the wrapped processed cheese. My dogs are large (borzoi)
so i haven't been too worried about the fat content. Try to give them very little fat in their
normal meals. They, too, are old ie twelve and eleven. But so far, so good. Borzois don't have the
life span of small or medium size dogs unfortunately. Good luck with yours......z

5. It's what I've used with my dogs.
I use just enough to go around the pill. The dogs love it.

6. My Vet recommends a little cream cheese (low fat),
Unless they have a dairy allergy it has always work for my doggies. They sell pill pocket treats. They taste yummy (to animals) and are easy to slip a pill into but they can get expensive and I'm sure they are filled with salt and fat and whatever. I would stick to cream cheese. Don't forget to have a schmear on your bagel afterwards.

7. Never tried cream cheese
I've got two "mature" pooches and the only thing that works for us is a peanut butter sandwich. A little peanut butter in a small folded piece of bread and they suck it right down! Anything else gets eaten, then the pill gets spit out.

I'm going to try the cream cheese. Thanks for the suggestion!
