What foods are you feeding your Kidney-renal issues cats? I just spoke to three
companies in the last two days that are using pork in their products now sometimes as the main ingredient calling it "meat by-products". I thought pork was not highly digestible. Just because the cost of pork is down and cheaper I am now looking for alternatives. Our one cat is on IV fluid treatments everyday and am concerned about all the pet food ingredient changes happening right now.... Any input into this would be appreciated.

1. I've had four of six cats...
that had renal issues. I'm down to one cat now who is 18 and thankfully in good shape. We have been giving her subcutaneous fluids for three years now and feeding her a combination of Royal Canin LP (Low Phosphorus) dry food and Petguard canned food, which you can only get from a health food store or directly from the company. I would suggest a very high quality food along with a special veterinary diet. You might want to talk to your vet about the best food to feed your cat, as they know what works for cats with renal issues. Good luck in finding a good, high quality food that your cat will like.

2. We are doing the Renal RC dry and their wet also. But found out that their main
ingredient in the wet pouches (which will be going to canned btw) is pork. I will check into Petguard info. One of our cats is on subQ for a few months now but am concerned with the upcoming and recent changes in Renal foods. I think they are going "cheap".

3. That's interesting info on RC pouches...
I tried feeding all kinds of canned renal food to my guys, and no one liked much of it. They were Ok with the dry RC Renal LP, so I figured the next best thing was to feed them the highest quality food that I could find. Petguard fit that bill and they loved it. I'm not a big fan of most of these Veterinary diets, as they have by-products and fillers in them that have been found not to be beneficial to the animal's health. I don't understand why they would put such garbage in food that cats and dogs with compromised health need to eat, but that is sadly the case. If you are careful and well educated on the choices that are available, I think you can find something that is high quality that your cat(s) will like.
