It has a 2004 data on it so I guess it's been around for a while, but I've never seen it before.
It has me crying my eyes out.
It's about a program for "unadoptable dogs" that that they are matching up with prisoners in prisons for rehabilitation. The prisoners have the dogs 24 hrs a day. It's selective as to which prisoners can be part of the program and it teaches to prisioners to be responsible for another living creature, 24 x 7. It trains them train and rehabilitate the dog, then when rehabilitated, the dogs are adopted out to "forever homes."
It's so touching... the transformations the dogs have brought to both those prisoners in the program and many of the other inmates. Prison violence has gone down remarkably where the dog training program is in place. It's led to new, more respectful relationships between prisoners and guards. As one inmate put it, "the dogs open us up to the softer feelings and I guess we all like it."
Truly remarkable and amazing.
