My dog goes wild when he hears the PediPaws nail trimmer
and not in a good way. I haven't been able to file a single nail yet. He's 7 months old and kind of wild, so I didn't think it would be easy, but I am getting nowhere fast. When I turn it on he barks at it and gets into a play position. If I try to pin him down he squirms and gets away.

I guess he didn't read the ads.

1. PediPaws not well received
My vet advised against buying one of these. He said that he's received numerous comments (all negative) from some of his other clients who have tried them. It seems to be the noise and vibration that disturb the pets.

gunshot when the local duck hunters were shooting nearby. In fact, he ran toward the gunshot and crashed the party. So I didn't think a little buzzing noise would bother him. Wrong.

I'm going to keep trying to get him used to it, but I was hoping someone here had success!

2. The owner of the petfood store that I go to said that she had gotten
significant negative feedback on the Pedipaws.

4. Did *you* read the instructions? ;)
We've had ours for about 2 weeks and only just turned the thing 'on' yesterday. I have an older "wild" pup as well - it's going to take longer for them to be comfortable with it.

Assuming you haven't, you may want to get him used to having it near him while it's off - use the 'leave it' command until he can be near it but not interested in it. Then you start the same process with it turned on - until he pretty much ignores it.

Ours came with a link to an instructional video but I don't have it with me right now - I'll try to remember to post it later if you don't have it.

5. Here's the video.

My dogs don't love it but they don't go crazy. I've been giving them treats and that helps their interest level.

6. Yes, I did. Its only been a week since I bought it.
I've been showing it to him every day but as soon as I turn it on he freaks. I guess it going to take a lot more patience than I thought.

7. For a second, I thought you were showing you dog the video every day
 Must be a monday. How is the noise level on these? None of the videos show how loud it is.

8. Mine plugs in. It isn't too loud --
maybe about the same as an electric razor. My dogs don't mind the noise -- they just don't like me messing with their paws. :(

9. I should try that.
That one and a teeth brushing video. These human imposed grooming functions are really quite foreign to him!

10. I bought one for my Labrador who hates his feet touched.

He will not allow the vet's office to trim them and their answer is to give him ketamine. I don't like that so i bought a PediPaws. After reading the instructions, I would turn it on and rub it on his body. If he didn't flinch then he got a treat. I did this for about a week before I tried to hold his paw and just put the trimmer on his feet. We played this game until he was comfortable with the noise. All in all it took me about 2 weeks to get to the point where I tried actually using it. He will allow me to trim for quite a while but he has very long and thick nails so I don't try to do all 4 feet at one time.

edited for speling
