The Groomer Has It
does anyone else watch this show on Animal Planet ? I've never gotten into any of the other reality shows on TV, but since this one involves dogs, I had to give it a try and I like it.

In last night's episode, the last 4 contestants had to groom dogs in a shelter to prep them for an adoption fair. I didn't think that having them compete to get their dog adopted that day was such a great concept since it didn't promote trying to make the best match for the animal and its new family. Of course, I'm sure the rescue group did that - it just wasn't emphasized.

The dog Teddy that contestant Artist chose to groom reminded me of the shih tsu Freddy that my group rescued last year with Just a Touch Rescue of RI. Both were covered in mats and had to be shaved down. Teddy was luckier than Freddy because no permanent damage was done to him. Poor Freddy had to have a leg amputated because the blood supply had been cut off by the mats. He did regain use of his hind legs which had been matted together so badly that had to drag himself around.

I'm rooting for Artist to win the grand prize because he chose Teddy who needed the most help and Artist knew he might not be the most attractive dog after he was groomed.

1. I've been watching it
I didn't like the way Artist treated his dog last week. That bothered me a lot.

4. They had Sonya, the pet psychic on
First they were grooming owner dogs. Artis was rough on his and Sonya picked up on that. then they had to groom Portugese water spaniels. Artis was pretty rough on his again, but not as bad. Sonya picked up on that again, she really didn't like him. She said that he had improved a bit, but he still had a long way to go. And watching him work with the dogs I really didn't like what I saw either.

I want Catherine to win, she is good and she seems to really care about the dogs.

3. I've been recording and watching it every week.
I was watching last night's episode when I saw your post! :)

This episode had me in tears! I just knew they would change the rules because that really would have been unfair.

7. It's all about appearance. At a minimum give the dog a bath and brush.
Sometimes we have to shave them down because of severe matting.

9. I saw it only once, when they were given the one task that filled them with dread:
Cats.

It was pretty hilarious.
