To the best little dog in the world
I lost my baby today. At around 4:30 this morning I heard Max, my Lhasa mix, bark - just one little woof, but it woke me up - and I turned on the light and he wasn't in his bed. He was laying a couple of feet from it so I picked him up and put him back in his bed. He didn't seem to be in pain but there was an odd look in his eyes so I sat next to him and petted him. He died while I was doing this.

It's like he woke me up to say goodbye. That's what friends do.

I got him on June 1, 1992 at the Hayward CA animal shelter. He was about three so he lived to the ripe old age of 18+ and was still pretty active to the end.

When I lived by the beach his favorite thing was chasing sea birds and barking at the waves. And as hard as today is that's where I like to think he is right now, barking at waves and garbage men and skateboarders and going for endless walks without a leash.

Here's my favorite photo of him, protesting mightily after his bath:

3. What a character!
How sweet that he woke you to say goodbye. You'll miss him deeply, I know, but do keep thinking of him barking at the waves and garbage men and doing his favorite things. I'm sure that he'd be having fond thoughts of you doing your favorite things if the situation were reversed. My deepest condolences.

So remarkable to have such a good friend for so long. You heart must be breaking. You are right.....Max is probably chasing sea birds and barking at the waves right now. The memories will keep him close. RIP little Max.

14. I am so sorry you have lost Max. He sounds like he was a good friend,
esecially loving since he got up to say goodbye to you.
I had a Lhasa named Pookie. She was born in Feb 1970, and also lived to be 18+ years. I live near the ocean, and she also loved to run on the beach and chase the birds.
They are wonderful, sweet little furbabies. He will always live in that little Max shaped space in your heart. I am sure his spirit will stick around to watch over you.
