japple, you were partially right, they very well could have come at 9am, since everything was dry and clean by the time I got home from work! No tigger though!

Forget saving best for last!LOL! I'm starting with my favorite pic from day 1.

Momma had to jump back in to protect the babies after I so rudely changed the sheet!LOL

9. Yeah! Good job Michelle & Good job Lisa!
How long do the babies stay with you (and mom) before going to the adoption house? I bet they'll be placed quickly -

10. They will most likely stay with me until they are adopted,
so I would guess at least 10 weeks. I'll be bringing them into the shelter for the pet fairs when they are old enough, and they have deals with some walmarts, grocery stores, etc to advertise, plus petfinder.com and some other sites. I hope they get placed very quickly, since I was the one who made the decision to let her deliver, instead of going ahead and spaying at 8 weeks.

11. Has she and her kittens taken up residence on your bed?
I'm wondering how you sleep at night with her and her little ones in the same bed as you.

12. Not yet.
They are in a spare room in a box in the closet, with sheets in it. But here is a pic from my first assignment as a foster mommy...

13. Is that 3 calicos and 1 b/w? It's hard to tell. Anyway, whatever
they are, they're sweet babies and I'm so happy they're finally here. I know you're relieved and Michelle probably is too. That's hard work! I'll look forward to watching them grow thanks to your posts.
Hugs to you and your little family.

14. 2 and 2
2 B&W and 2 calicos. I expected more babies, but they look like a pretty good size for newborns!

Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 08:31 PM by ocelot
The existence of kittens is one of the things that keep me from giving up on the universe.

How many girls & boys? I assume the calicos are girls; are the B&Ws boys?

We will need more pictures, at least daily.

18. Momma wants her privacy, so I have to be patient!
I have only been going in to change food, water, and litter. But I stopped to pet momma, and she purred at first, and then took a swat at me and hissed. I know it's just her instinct to protect her babies, so I will just give her space!

But I got a little worried when I went in this morning and didn't see the babies in the box. It took me a couple minutes to figure out they were still in the closet, but on the floor in the corner instead of in the box. That concerns me a little, because the floor is hard and cold. Should I try picking them up and putting them back in the box when I go home tonight? And then maybe put a towel down in case she wants to move them back to the other spot again?

Also, momma had a bit of fresh blood on the fur near her rear this morning. Not much, but a spot about the size of a nickel. Is that normal for a day or two after giving birth?

20. Call your friend at the cat rescue about the blood and the box --
Maybe you should not change the towel daily - smell is really important to them as a 'safety' signal. Even if the floor in the closet is hard and cold -- it is probably lots warmer and safer than if she had had the kittens outside.

21. I only changed it once.
What I read online was to give them fresh bedding after the birth. It was all bloody. I chnged it with one that had been in the room for the past week, which she had stepped all over.

30. Momma's being very protective right now.
Especially since the stressful trip to the shelter. I thought I'd give her her space for a couple days, and do nothing but change her food, water, and litter. So, I'll take more pics in a day or two:-)
