Just lost my wonderful cat, Teddy.
He was not quite 15. A few weeks ago I took him to the vet because his lower jaw looked swollen. The vet said he had osteosarcoma of the jaw, and nothing could be done except make him comfortable for the few weeks he had left. By last night I could tell it was time, so this morning we took that last, sad trip to the vet. (I've had to do this before -- several times-- and it never gets any easier.) He went out purring.

He always purred a lot; loved everybody; had a good life. He was a very fine cat and I'll miss him.

Teddy -- 3/13/91 - 12/17/05 --- RIP

2. I'm so sorry, ocelot
Teddy was a very handsome gent. And you know that he was very happy and felt very loved. I believe that's what my 17 yr. old Tigger had. I know how difficult it is to make that final decision. You did things perfectly.

3. So sorry to hear that
It sounds like Teddy had a nice, long life and a happy one at that. What a cutie.

I lost a great cat a couple years back and I still miss her. It's not easy seeing them pass. I guess you just have to be thankful you got to share their life with them. Hugs.

9. I am so sorry Ocelot. I lost one of my babies to the same thing. Her fur
started to look messy and it turned out she had a tumor in her mouth, and could not clean herself anymore. When she could no longer eat, we had to let her go.. It is so hard to lose one of our furbabies....
Teddy was a very sweet looking boy. He looks like he was smiling in that pic.

11. What a sweet pink-nosed boy. He was a lucky cat to have had
many happy years with you, and you were a lucky cat mother to have had such a precious furry companion. Sorry he had to shed his earthly body, but his little cat spirit is probably doing cartwheels across the sky, and maybe even on your bed. May you find peace in your memories of Teddy.

Seems like a lot of us have cat-shaped holes in our lives right now, but even though it's tough to lose them -- they don't live nearly long enough -- I wouldn't want to live without a cat or two. Teddy and I had a great 15 years together.

And he really put up with a lot:

to look dignified in an outfit like that - Teddy pulls it off nicely!

We're a unique bunch here. Bless Teddy, he is adorable, so sorry he crossed the rainbow bridge.

Hope he is in the garden of eden: catnip, mice and excellent food, and no Bu$h. What a place to be! 48%er and the kids.

30. So sorry, ocelot...
Teddy was such a beautiful cat! I love cats that purr a lot...I think it's a sign of sweetness. It's such a calming sound.

My lab has bone cancer, too. He's doing ok for now - every day that he does well is a blessing.

31. More about Teddy...
I didn't write this in the original post because it made me all sniffly -- still does, kind of. He was always a very purry, friendly cat, but for the last couple of years, for reasons best known to him, he had chosen to sleep downstairs on the couch rather than with me. But after I took him to the vet to look at his swollen jaw, and learned he didn't have much time left, that changed -- that very night. All by himself, he came back and slept with me, every night, right above my head. Purring. When I woke up the morning I had to take him back to the vet for the last time, he was still on the bed, purring.

Maybe he knew something? It was strange, but I was so glad to have him there with me those last couple of weeks, so I could hear him purr.

32. Oh ocelot, you're breaking my heart
What a sweet old boy you had. Maybe that was his way of saying goodbye - giving you time to let go and hold some dear memories close.

My dog had three seizures just a day or two before Theo died (he hadn't had a seizure since just after the election in '04 but that's another story) and we are left to wonder if Beau knew something we did not. It's really too bad our animals can't talk to us in ways we can always understand, but they do communicate.

I think Teddy was speaking to your heart from his. I'm glad you had that time together.

He looks like he was a real sweetie. He was lucky to have you to take care of him. O8)
