Musical chairs with cats..
Anybody have a chair thief cat?

My Rustle is incorrigible.
The minute a human butt, any butt leaves a chair he's got to steal it.(doesn't matter if you have had a "fragrant"taco bell moment they don't seem to be offended, they'll take your seat regardless because YOU were there and now the CAT is..)
Doesn't matter if you are watching a movie and got up to pee,he's there in YOUR chair when you get back..Doesen't matter if you are in the kitchen on a wood chair..and get up to refill your coffee, that chair he's on it now!If you are at the computer, and get up to get a CD don't matter he's got a chair and YOU don't no more..

And if you pick him up after he's stolen your spot to reclaim it,
he goes Raaaaawwwwrar! and he acts so disgruntled. He obviously resents you moving him from his *ahem* pilfered spot.
If you put him on another chair and you dare get up again,he'll get up from the chair you sat him on regardless that he WAS comfy there..He'll steal your chair.
WTF is it with those seat thief cats?
I have no peace in this house.Rustle steals my chair every time I move and Vinny swipes the straw right outta my cup! Gotta love them tho..

Anybody else here end up playing musical chairs or find your soda straw with their ornery thieving playful priceless cats?

1. Nah, mine don't like chairs much. They prefer the corner of my desk
or the top of the bookshelf.

They're actually the first pets I've ever had that DIDN'T want my seat :)

2. My Tortie Girls
don't steal seats but, I have always kept a box of drinking straws in the cupboard for all my cats throughout the years!

3. During the Oil Embargo
During the Arab Oil Embargo in the 1970s I was living at home with my folks, and our two tabbies would grab any prewarmed spot. (We kept the house pretty cool.)

If you keep your digs a bit chilly, your Rustie may be looking for some body heat.

Otherwise, he's just being adorable.

4. Only when I'm EATING
Nothing more disconcerting than to come back to the table and see the cat standing on your chair licking up the milk from your cereal, or licking the cheese off of your pizza. Yes, she cleans herself with that tongue.

If there's nothing on the table yet, she hops up and lays downs there, waiting to see what I'll bring her.

Must be a nice life.

5. My cat steals the chair
in the stereo/TV room. Get up and go to the john and two minutes later there's Max, looking as if he's been there for an hour.

6. so comfy you don't want to bother them...
lol. it's ridiculous, but a cat must have a sense of humour, to take the computer desk hair in the few moments away, and to look so settled-in-for-a good-nap like...haha....i keep a foldup chair handy for such cases(i'll drag the desk chair aside a bit)
another thing is can openers.....can opener=tuna! the cats seem to 'sense' whenever the can opener is taken out, they appear as if by magic! so if one wants canned soup, or fruit, then the cats get a treat!

9. I had my baby kitten, Jezebel, since she was 3weeks old
brought in as a stray. The first time she heard a can opener, when she was about 11 weeks old (everything is pop top nowadays) she came running!! She has NEVER gotten anything good out of a can. Where did she pick this up? Has it become instinctual for them? Did my other cats tell her to listen for the can opener. Strange thing this can opener knowledge!

:-)

7. My Tenny will beat me to my chair at the computer and jump onto it
Edited on Thu Nov-24-05 12:10 PM by expatriot
a second before I want to plop my human butt onto it. I think he did this at first becuase he was jealous of the attention I would give to the computer but now I think he does it because he knows I will pick him up and just place him on my lap and give him cat massage while I fire up DU.

on edit: Tenny is the brown one in my avatar.

8. Only during cold weather.
The rest of the time, they don't do it. During cold weather, all three will guard the spot in a cunning sneaky sort of way. Whichever cat is the closest will look around for the other two and if they are the lucky cat who is the closest, they'll jump up and cuddle with me. If I get up to go use the bathroom, like a magnet they'll implant themselves where I was sitting. Yogi and Sunday Girl will move when I get back. Domino will not. I have to coerce Domino to get my spot back. I love the fact that they keep it warm for me. It feels good during cold weather.

10. maybe sit for the first five minutes in your second favorite seat.
Make sure your cat notices you there!! Then get up, do all you will need to do for the next few hours and return to your favorite chair. Hopefully your kitty will have happily stolen your first seat and all will be well!

14. The Great Pumpkin loves this computer chair...
...which, of course, is a problem whenever I need to use it. Since he takes up about 2/3 of the seat, I wind up sitting, gingerly, on the front third until he decides to leave (generally first "kneading" my back with his paws for a minute or two). If the time I need to use the computer is brief, he sometimes outlasts me, and I wind up being the person leaving.
