We are finally getting DSL hooked up today (whoohooo!!) and my son wants to know if he can run his ethernet port directly to his x-box or will he need a router? There are 4 ethernet ports on the back of the DSL modem. Thanks
1. You only need a router if the DSL modem does not
provide Network Address Translation (NAT). I used to hook several machines to the DSL modem, but I had to "switch the connection" among them, I could not use the network from all of them at the same time. That is what the router provides (plus some firewall capabilities).
