A red divider:

The code::bounce:

It would be nice to change the colors.. I must have set a default somewhere that is blocking the color change..

that Tinoire demonstrated in a previous thread. It looks like this: Highlight this text or Highlight this text or Highlight this text

Code:

77. is it possible, SoCalDem, to adjust the speed of the scroll?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 01:04 PM by TaleWgnDg

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy hungry dogs.

"In his press conference the other night, President Bush said freedom is a gift from the Almighty, and we have been called by God to use our military power to spread freedom throughout the world. Then he called that Sadr guy in Iraq a religious nutcase." — G.W. Bush, as quoted by Jay Leno.

***********************
I did not program my sig line to scroll and yet it is scrolling. Why? And how can I stop it from scrolling? I only thought I programmed the above to lines (fox and religious nutcase) to scroll and nothing else. And if these lines are scrolling, they are not supposed to be scrolling.

First you say:

Then you say:

Just what do you mean with these obvious contradictions. Either it is the quick brown fox or it is the good men. Which is it?

It must end in gif , jpg, or png..

If it's on your hard drive, it must first be uploaded to a website..

If you link (copy paste url) from someone else's site, they are charged for bandwitdth..and som will change the picture you link to a very XXX or nasty pic..:)

photobucket is a site that a lot of people use ..it't free..

So I have my own website and say I put a jpeg on a page. If I put the url for that page in the post, what if there is more than one image on the page. :think: Will it put all the images located on that url?

I've been fooling around with CSS lately. Here's the source in regular XHTML (you'll have to convert it to DU markup yourself):

<div style="display: block; border: 3pt outset red; margin: 20pt 10pt 10pt 20pt; padding: 30pt 10pt 10pt 10pt; background-color:cccccc">

I want to put some text along the top of one of my pictures. Specifically, I want to do something like this:

Wolfpacks For Truth

But I don't know how to do it without messing up the rest of my sig line.

Thank you for any help you can give me on this.

I may substitute this image which my mom either found or made for me, (I don't know, just got it in an email).

84. uhhhhh ok.
So this looks like a list full of helpful people. I have a question that is not related to this thread but I can't find the answer anywhere. Someone please help me, I'm small and new and frightened! Ok, this will probably seem dumb, but here is my three part question:

1. What the heck does n/t mean?
2. What is the purpose of kicking a thread?
3. Are there any other DU-specific shorthands I should probably know about?

Thanks a bunch... Sorry I couldn't find a more appropriate thread.

85. Here ya go..
n/t means no text.. people use it in a subject line so that people know they do not need to click the thread title.. there's nothing more to see :)some also use eom (end of message)

threads "drop" as comments are made to other posts.. when a reply is made to any thread it goes back to the top (BTTT) kicking a thread moves it up top, and is often done when people do not necessarily want to post to it, but think it's important enough for others to see right away.. lots of folks don't look beyond page 1..(sillies)

I use and LOVE smugmug, but it's not free.. A DUer once had storage space that he offered, but I don;t know if that's still up and running..

there's one called photoshack and lots of others I cannot remember..

try google and maybe type in free image hosting. However..

geocities, angelfire, tripod, and a few others will not show up at DU.. DU software will convert it to a link that can be clicked, though...

Oooooooopps. The above post #124 is incorrect . . .

I inadvertently placed "http://" in the imbedded hyperlink above post #124. DON'T do that! Instead omit it and do the imbedded hyperlink as follows:

{link:www.mass.gov/legis/member/ret0.htm|LINK}

(1.) replace the squiggly brackets with regular brackets, and
(2.) where it states "LINKS" in capital letters replace it with the words that you want to appear as I did above, "Senate President Robert E. Travaglini, D, Boston" . . .

Sorry about that . . .

127. Hey, SoCalDem . . .
Have you conquered "how to center" graphicss on a page, yet? That is, w/o using the
"{font color="white" size="1" face="verdana"} . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . " ??? Seriously. And thanks for your help.

Holy, hot tomalleys! I'M CENTERED!! Now, to *work* on my text centering . . . how is that hard part done?

And, thanks for your help, SoCalDem. Your new sig line is great! Gotta love all that html stuff.

BTW, did you know that <center> (w/ brackets, of course) will center all graphics unless </center> (w/ brackets of course) is added? I just found that out. But I'll bet you already know that it's necessary to do it.

edited to add: I looked at the "Democratic Underground Forums HTML Reference Lookup Table" popup and I am perplexed, SoCalDem. What is all this stuff? What is a "formatted list," an "unordered list," etc. . . . all the brackets have been replaced with "<>"

Formatted List
Unordered Lists with <li> <ul>
<li>
<li>
...
</ul>
Ordered Lists with <ol> <ol>
<li>
<li>
...
</ol>

Okay. But you know what happened? I went looking in past DU threads (like these). And there you were referring somebody to this website:

http://htmlclinic.com/pagecontent.php

So I scrolled around awhile on that site. And there were the answers to those questions about "what is 'Formatted List'" that I asked you . . . nice. And, thanks. I'm still looking to find out how to center text and do other things w/ text. As you said, it's more difficult.

136. vertical alignment?
How do I center things vertically?

I'm doing a tribute to Kef on my blog.

Here's the setup (I've put a space in the .gif code):

<img src="http://members.cox.net/lazarusblog/khephra. gif" />
In Memory of Khephra
<img src="http://members.cox.net/lazarusblog/khephra. gif" />
</center>

So I've got two large gifs, with the text at the bottom:

In Memory of Khephra

I'd like for the text to be centered vertically between the top and bottom of the .gifs. How do I do that?

Oh, it's in a table or something. The whole thing is:

<tr>
<td bgcolor="#000000"><img src="bloggertemplate59_cleardot.gif" width="1" height="1"></td>
</tr>

<tr>
<td class="links">
<!-- edit the links below with your own -->

<center>
<img src="http://members.cox.net/lazarusblog/khephra. gif" />
In Memory of Khephra
<img src="http://members.cox.net/lazarusblog/khephra. gif" />
</center>

</td>
</tr>

<tr>
<td bgcolor="#000000"><img src="bloggertemplate59_cleardot.gif" width="1" height="1"></td>
</tr>

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=288

Just a reminder, since our group is a little "slow" at the moment, that DU also has a group dedicated to helping solve web design and software development type questions. Web design, HTML, JavaScript, Cold Fusion, Java, PHP, ASP, acronym ad infinitum. Drop in, ask a question, we don't bite and we may even have an answer for you :hi:

so let us not talk falsely now; the hour is getting late.

147. making photos as links
I'm working on something where I want the text to be linked to photos, i.e., I don't want the photo to automatically appear, I just want it to be there as a resource.

I thought normal linked text code would work, so I wrote

">here's the text

and the above is what I get.

Does anyone know a what to just LINK a jpeg to text?

148. the answer to above
For anyone else interested in the answer to the above question, SoCalDem helpfully gave me the answer. Simply add ?click at the end, for instance:

?click">Jeff Miller

Hold your mouse over that and you'll see how I got it to link to a photo rather than display the photo.
