1. Have you called Verizon?
They may walk you through the problem. I use comcast and they are very willing to do that for problems like this.

2. Not yet.. I'm going to call them when my husband goes and picks
up the kids from preschool.

I have a feeling they're not going to be of much assistance.

3. Could just be a bad modem
They do die from time to time. The other possibility is on the other end- network problems, or workers doing things to the wiring down the street, or something like that. You may want to call tech support- they can do an end-to-end diagnostic from their end. It doesn't take long.

4. Ok I called..
didnt do much but reset my modem. they tested my line from theirs and there was nothing wrong.

argh.. the frustration.

they said that my 5.8 ghz phone base could be interfering with my modem. I dont understand how since my modem is a 2.4 ghz.

5. A 5.8GHz phone should not interfere with a 2.4GHz router.
I've been running that combo for a few years.

Keep calling Verizon when you lose your network & document the calls. After the third call, ask to speak to a supervisor & read back what occured on those calls. If you can't get satisfaction from a supervisor, ask to speak to his/her supervisor.

If they cannot resolve the problem, write a paper nasty-gram to Ivan Seidenberg at corporate HQ.

It's a pain in the butt, but that's the only way you'll get satisfaction from Verizon.

I had a client whose DSL connection kept disconnecting- it in fact turned out to be a crappy wireless telephone base. Take it off the hook, and the DSL would work. Hang up, and the DSL connection crapped out. Odd as all get out, and it took me a while to diagnose it, but when she stepped into the room while talking on her phone and then hung up while I had the modem in my hands and was watching the lights, it clicked. The DSL instantly disconnected the moment she hung up.

I could have stumbled around on that problem for hours, but I lucked out. Check your phones.

8. Poorly designed UHF gizmos can generate all kinds of
spurious radiation, subharmonics, heterodynes and noise. I've seen a lot of that kind of thing, even a microwave oven knocking out wireless devices. I'd be looking for something along these lines.:D

6. I had a similar problem.
It would be fine for some period, weeks, days, months, and then
start to drop the connection over and over. Didn't like humidity.

It proved to be a noisy line. I called out the telco and they found
some noise problems (crossed lines) and fixed them, and then I ran
a direct line from the telco "network interface device" on my back
wall under the house to the modem. That seems to have fixed it.

The noise can be in the telco circuits or in your house wiring,
especially if you have multiple wall drops for your DSL line.

The only info I got from the ISP support was the idea that I had
"interference".

I now get occasional drops which I attribute to "network maintenance"
on the concentrator end or from the ISP.
