Transfering Cassettes to mp3/AAC..any suggestions?
I have Nero Burning,and a Audigy 2 soundcard,
is it as easy as connecting a portable CD/radio/cassette player to the line-in jack?

Which cable is needed and
which cassette player would you recommend?

Many thanks in advance...

1. I transferred reel-to-reel tapes to CD.
It took a couple of trips to Radio Shack to get the connections but I went from the reel-to-reel player to the microphone input on my Sony stereo receiver (which is probably at least 8 years old), then through the headphone output to the microphone input on my PC. I used Magix software for the transfer. You can take out distortions and add enhancements so that the music sounds great.

My father-in-law had recorded all of his old LPs onto the tape back in the early 60s. The "portable" reel-to-reel player/recorder must weigh 50 pounds but that sucker still works! He gave it all to my husband so long ago that the hope was that we would transfer it to cassette! Talk about procrastination. I have a lot more left to do and really ought to get going on it again. It will be easier this time because now I have a laptop so I don't need 20-foot cords going from one machine to another!

It's actually a lot of fun when you get it going. Good luck!

2. Yes, cables from Radioshack can do the trick
I use Audacity to record. It works just fine.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It's free.
