Help! Win XP possible virus?
I just looked at my "recycle bin", because the desctop icon indicated there was something in it.

When I opened it, there were no files, but I clicked on "empty recyle bin", the yes/no window said "are you sure you want to delete the file: Windows?"

So I thought..."hmmm". And trued to restore files, but with no files to highlight, there's nothing to restore.

Any suggestions?

1. on edit: I rebooted, and now it's gone.
Weird.

Nothing turned up in Norton Anti-Virus, either.

Double Weird.

2. It's not a virus ...

It's a Windoze problem. The recycle bin gets borked sometimes through various combinations of factors. It can go to the extreme of you having to edit your registry to fix it, but doing what you did is usually the best option.

If it ever does it again, try putting a blank text file or something in it and emptying it. That sometimes works.

3. No it's not a virus. Those could be "Windows Protected Files"
or the like. I get those once in a while and a reboot seems to clear them up. BTW, do you have Norton SystemWorks on there? NSW will show those as "Windows Protected Files".
