Kommando for telling me to get Spy Reveal which has not detected one spy ware or mal ware since I bought it about 4 months ago. I know my computer gets these things and they make it run bad and if I get rid of them the problem is fixed. The thing is I can't remember what one I had in my old computer.

I would love a free one or a not so expensive one. thanks in advance.

Maraya

Edit: My windows spyware is turned off and I can't get it to turn back on. I bet it is a spyware program that is stopping it unless someone knows something I don't, (most probably)

1. best free one is MSE
Microsoft Security Essentials. Nearly invisible, very effective. It's all I've run on my Win7 box for a year now, and zero issues.

2. Malwarebytes
Free version is good, pay version lets you schedule updates and scans when the computer is idle which is handy if you leave your machine turned on. Costs about $30.

4. Kim Kommando is a joke
as is most of her show...mildly informative for those not systems savvy. Her problem is that all the stuff she touts over the air pay her to advertise for them. Of that there should be little doubt. Information in this section of DU alone is worth more than 10 of her websites...

5. Another great one is Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Totally free, works perfectly and you can "immunize" your system if you choose to.

7. To clarify:
Edited on Fri May-13-11 01:11 PM by woo me with science
Malwarebytes is an excellent program, but in my experience it's best for getting rid of serious malware like viruses. It rarely finds anything for me, but when it does, it is something serious.

Superantispyware finds tracking cookies on a regular basis and keeps the system clean of minor nuisances. It also is often a useful "first line" of cleaning that allows the computer to get rid of serious viruses that have disabled Malwarebytes or access to security sites or updates.

9. I use the paid version of Malwarebytes.
You don't have to do that but I like it because it runs in real time and if you click on something suspicious it will almost always block it. I've also cleaned up a lot of people's computers with the free version. It is excellent. Superantispyware is another malware protector that I use that is very good.
