How do I Uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student
There are several Microsoft Products that came pre-installed on our new laptop as described in earlier posting.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=242x31779

We thought we would try out the trial subscription for Microsoft Office 2007 Word, but we are unhappy with it. We never entered any product key, only tried to create a couple of documents.

We want to uninstall Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student to reinstall Microsoft Office 2003 Home and Student, but what should be uninstalled first of these 3 products?

1. Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007
2. Microsoft office PowerPoint Viewer 2007
3. Microsoft Office Suite activation assistant

Also, what is Microsoft Silverlight, and does it need to be uninstalled too?

There are is also Microsoft SQL server 2005, and 5 Microsoft products for Visual C++. Should I be concerned with these?

Thank you for your assistance.

1. Get Revo Uninstaller
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

***Scroll down to the bottom of the checklist graphic for the freeware version.***

Revo allows you to uninstall through the selected program's uninstall feature but then, afterward, the magic happens. Revo looks for leftover files and Registry entries and gives you the option of deleting them. This way, you (most times) won't encounter stupid error screens that prevent you from fresh installs of older software. MS doesn't like users to roll back to older versions of their software.

As for the order in which you uninstall the programs you posted, I'd go with the Suite Activation software first but I don't really think the order matters. If it does matter, you'll most likely be informed of this when you're performing uninstalls on your selected programs.

As for getting rid of SQL server and Visual Basic C++, it's probably okay to get rid of them as well. Your older Office has the appropriate versions of those programs bundled in the Suite and you can choose to install them during setup.

Silverlight is Microsoft's alternative to Flash Player. I would keep it in case you run across an online stream that requires it.

2. If Revo gives me an option to delete something

I should assume to delete? How would I know to keep something?

3. Well, I guess it depends on the old product
Naturally, you don't want to delete programs you want to keep. As well, a good rule: If you don't know what it is or what it does, leave it alone.

However, if you own a MS Office Suite 2003 disk, you own the complete suite of programs, extras, addins, dlls and stuff that are required. If you choose "Custom Install", you can pick and choose what programs you want and there will be descriptions of every item. If you need an not-installed program or addin later, you just pop in your Office disk and go get it.

Perhaps you could explain further what you mean? Is there a specific program, aside from the ones you mentioned in your original post, that you want to uninstall?

4. I've never uninstalled anything Microsoft before

I thought I would go to add/remove programs and uninstall Microsoft Office 2007, then insert the disc for Microsoft Office 2003.

But then I saw all those other Microsoft products in the add/remove list, and I wasn't sure if it made any difference which to uninstall first.

And then the Revo suggests I have an option of what to de-install. I assume everything associated with Microsoft 2007 would be deleted. Correct?

It should be simple, but nothing works simple for me, so I try to anticipate possible malfunctions before I start.
Thanks!

5. I don't think

...that "everything Microsoft 2007" will be ruined if you uninstall programs, one by one.

What you want to do is uninstall programs associated with Microsoft Office 2007. Getting rid of them should have no detrimental effect on your Operating System or other programs.

That's what the uninstall process is all about - removing programs safely. It's when you flat out delete programs, folders and files that you get in trouble.

7. Don't worry about Revo mucking up anything
Run Revo, select the trial version of office you want to delete and put Revo into Advanced mode.

After the first uninstall run, click next, select all and delete. Then click next again and do the same. After this your system is clean of previous Office versions and you can go ahead and install your own MS Office cleanly.
