can someone please help me with slow start up?
I haven't been around to ask moronic questions in a while so here is one. It is taking so long to get things up and running lately. I know how to disable stuff in the start up menu, my problem is which stuff?
I tried to make an image of it for photobucket not sure if you can read it. What should I disable?

1. Untick everything except...
The stuff that's from Grisoft (file path, second column) because that's your anti-virus, then see how you go.

3. Yeppers
Anything Adobe is redundant. Jushed is Java Udate scheduler, Open Office doesn't need to run in the background ALL the time. OK, so it will take 2.5 seconds longer to open it up, but I bet it's one of the main culprits.

Turning any of those off wont break you machine and you can always turn them back on again.

6. Perfectly normal
It always appears after reboot when you've made changes via MSConfig.

Just tick the box that says 'Don't show this message....' and it will bother you no more - until the next time you untick anything.

Every time you install a program or allow anything to update, it's good to check MSConfig to see if anything new has been added to the startup list. Now that you've cleaned it out, you know what startups you wish to have running. You'd be amazed at how many programs insinuate themselves into your computer this way. :hi:

9. I sould have guessed from your user name but only just now looked at your profile
I was supposed to be visiting Australia this year. It was going to be my 50 birthday trip. I have a friend from Germany that I travel with - she has been before and also knows another friend who married a guy there, so we have been planning for years to come. Money and health problems have caused a delay, but it is a place I would really like to see before I get too old. I am especially interested in cattle country - in particular the drier areas (although I want some coast time too!) It would be cool to do some kind of meet up eventually - I think there are several of you on DU aren't there?

10. Yes, I know of about half a dozen
You'll find most of the names, surprisingly, in the Australia forum.

I'm in Melbourne, not near cattle country. Back in 86 I did live in a tent, in the bush, in the middle of Queensland cattle country, for a couple of months. Went mustering, rode wild horses with an old itinerant named George the Gypsy. Amazing experience.

If you ever do make the trip, I'd love to meet up if you're anywhere near.

11. in another year or two
I do need to study a bit more geography - I know it is a big place! Fortunately I live in the western US so I have a little grasp of that concept. In 2002 I went to visit my friend in Germany and we drove around down to the Alsace region of France - it was funny using a map that had as much detail as a whole map of AZ but only covered a couple hundred square miles. I would look and think OK it's going to take 3 hours to drive to this town and it would take 30 minutes:rofl:

12. Didn't realize you were Australian. ( Duh, of course..Canetoad)
I was born in Sydney. Plan to return to the Fatherland in a few years. Left there when I was fairly young...about 7.
Looking foward to it. :)
