When I get a message that says "To free up disk space .... etc
I hit OK, and as the quick procedure does it's thing, What does it what does it mean when sometimes will show at the top, "copying to.....

What is it copying to and why? Do I have somewhere secret file where all this old stuff lurks? If so, where is it and how do I get rid of it?

Thanks

1. More info required
Specifically, what does the end of the message say? Is it, "to free up disk space, outlook express can compact messages"?

2. That is what it says but when the little block shows and
you see the folders going from one spot to another, left to right, the caption on the top says copying.

3. That's exactly what it is doing
Not compressing the messages as such, but moving old, deleted emails to another folder. If Outlook Express didn't do this, it would become very slow.

It's not exactly an easy or intuitive process to modify this behavior, so think twice about doing so. If you decide to do so, instructions are here: http://www.thundercloud.net/infoave/tips/compacting/

My advice; ditch OE and use Thunderbird, Eudora, Incredimail.....anything but OE.
