wireless printer question....I have a wired PC with XP and a wireless laptop
with Windows 7..and a Netgear wireless router...

I bought a wireless printer and thought I could use the wireless part for the laptop..and the USB for the PC...not true...was told I need to get a network adapter to make my PC wireless...is that true? also...must I get the same brand of network adapter as the router (netgear)

I print a lot and would like the laptop connected to the printer also.

Thanks for any input with this issue.

Gin

1. I think you just need to turn on print and file sharing on the laptop and print to it. You also
have to add the printer to the laptop just as if it were wired. On XP there was a virtual and a real setting to adding a printer, I don't have Win7 setup right now but I'll do some checking.

I would split this into 2 problems:
a) adding wireless printer to laptop.
b) get laptop to see printer.

Here are 2 links with pic for XP; second link is a pdf

3. This is just a guess but..
I would think the wireless printer would need to be made part of your home network then the computers would connect to the printer via the network.

4. Pretty good guess!
Once I figured out that I could connect my printer to my router via ethernet connection, my wireless laptops can now print directly to the printer. It's a breeze to do it in Win 7.

5. I bought a netgear network adapter.....put that on the wired PC...set the printer up to the network
networked both computers and both print to the printer wirelessly....

exactly how I did it...not sure...but it works....

I was hoping to use the printer both ways...with USB and wireless but that wouldn't work.

Thanks for the input,

Gin
