A Sims2 problem
My daughter (10 yo) plays Sims2 on my laptop but we are unable to get our other computer to recognize the disc. We get the following message "your version of DLA can read files on this disc but you will not be able to edit or add to" and then nothing happens except that it asks us to put the disk in the drive but it already is there. Anyone have a good idea on how we could resolve this?

1. I had problems with Sims2.
I got the DVD version, but every time I tried to load the CD, nothing happened. I took it back and replaced it with a different copy, and got the same thing. My DVD player would just spin. So finally, I just it spin for awhile to see what would happen. After about 5-10 minutes of spinning, it started up and worked.

I don't know if this is related to your issue or not, but I thought I'd toss it out there.

3. No messages, just the spinning.
Like I said, it's probably a different issue, but I thought I'd throw it out there in case it helped.

5. We had that problem too
In fact a lot of people had issues installing and playing The Sims 2. The symptoms varied but most are related to copy protection issues. For example, Win XP users often cannot install the game at all if they have any CD or DVD burning software on their machine. There are of course legitimate uses for such software, in fact some machines come with it pre-installed, but don't tell EA Games that.

Anyway, one potential fix that worked for a lot of people is to turn off DLA. To do that right-click the drive you put the Sims disk into, select properties, and find the DLA tab. Then uncheck the DLA box. Put the CD back in the drive and see what happens.

I finally got it to work for our daughter, though we had a few other issues to fix as well as the copy protection problem. Good luck!
