Free photo software recommendations
Hello,

Can someone recommend a good free photo viewer/editor? Something simple. The only one I have is Windows Picture/Fax Viewer and it sucks. How to make the new program the default? Thanks so much!

1. Best piece of freeware in the universe

I'm series!!!11!!

IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com

There is such a lot packed into this little program (make sure you grab the plug-ins pack). Resize, straighten, add text, multiple file formats, special effects, cropping.....

On edit: Forgot to say, when you install IrfanView you can chose which file formats it handles by default. A good option is 'Images Only', as it will also play videos, sounds etc.

3. Seconded ...

... for something simple.

Actually, it's more powerful than a lot of people think it is, but it does the simple things too without all the bloat of some bigger apps.

If you want something a little more sophisticated, I'd recommend GIMP.

I've been using IrfanView for years. You'll be pleasantly surprised at all the features.

Ed: This was supposed to be a sub-thread of #1 {slaps forehead/}
