Weird problem with IE8 - tabs go dead
I have been noticing lately that sometimes new pop-ups or new tabs never load.

By new pop-ups I mean like when I click on a link on DU.

I realized lately that if a page never loads I can make a new tab, copy & paste the address and it comes up normally.

Any ideas on fixes?

:hi:

1. Sounds like you may just need to clik on the tabs option
under tools clik on the internet options and check out how it is set up and to change how it is if you want.

2. Here's a trick that can sometimes fix weird tab issues with IE8.
Close all IE windows.
Bring up a command prompt (if you have XP, click Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt.)
Type the following command:
regsvr32 actxprxy.dll

A window will come up for you to click OK. Then restart your computer.

4. I tried that and thought it worked, but
Friday night is my clicking my butt off night, and I see that it still does it.

It keeps Windows Live Mail from checking hotmail acct too. Glad I caught that.

Any other suggestions?

5. Any easy solution would be to use Firefox, which pioneered tabbeed browsing.
And the add the Firefox add-on called IE Tab if you are using sites which require IE.

After installing you can use Firefox and still keep using IE8 if you wish.

6. Looks like it's a common problem
http://groups.google.com/groups?num=20&q=ie8%20tabs%20load&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wg

Some people have gotten relief by disabling a Java addon called "SSV Helper", but it doesn't seem to work for everybody.

There's a guy, a propellerhead from the Sysinternals forum, who went at it with analysis tools and discovered the trouble was... cookies. He deleted his cookies and all was well. Maybe it'll work for you:

In the meantime, if you don't get it fixed, try pressing ESC on a stuck tab, then F5. Stop-and-refresh should save you the trouble of having to copy/paste the URL.
