It's FIXED!!!!!

I absolutely cannot believe it. I sat here, gnawing on my desk edge while this computer rebooted, and then, like magic, EVERYTHING WORKED!!!! McAfee went ahead and took care of the Automatic Update, the very thing that damn bug had prevented me from doing for the past eight days.

BattyDem figured it out - from sad personal experience - and walked this computer illiterate (that would be me) through the steps, explaining everything, and I did everything just as told (I'm smart enough to know when to take orders from those obviously superior beings who appear in times of desperate need).

And it worked!

IT WORKED!!!!!

To all you kind and thoughtful and remarkably generous people who helped me, all of you, I can only offer a big fat "Thank You" and if you're ever arrested in Northern Virginia, you got a free bail hearing and - provided you didn't do something stupid like try to kill someone in public office - I'll get you out on your own recognizance. That's a promise.
