Does it auto-update?
Does it scan local emails?
How do you like it?

I use AVAST now but read good reviews of AVIRA.

a couple of months. You can probably set it up to auto update. I don't. If I don't update it, a little pop-up reminds after a three day lapse.

According to the advert blurb that runs after an update (opens in a small separate window, does not mess with my browser), it doesn't scan email. Since I use gmail, which does scan, it's okay, but not ideal by far. For that reason, I'm planning to try Avast (assuming it does). I'm not exactly proficient, but it was showing some registry protection when I was doing some new program installations. It always catches two files with a *warning* which amounts to, "could not open file". I looked them up, and forget the one, but it was some kind of XP garbage which was okay to delete. The other is "pagefile", which I kept. No other scan has ever mentioned those files.

I REALLY like it. It's light weight, carefree. Oh. And it always loads first and quickly at start up.

Why are you considering a change?

2. I like checking out other software

I downloaded it and it caught something AVAST didn't.
I do realize "false positives" and the like but it appeared to be a Trojan.

However I do like AVAST email scanner and it auto-updates carefree.
