I am TSTL & probably no one can help, but
here goes.

I'm trying to bid on an item on ebay. First time ever. So I register, get a user name & password. They send me a confirmation & I finish the registration process. I get to the login screen & fill out the info & hit enter & the login screen just keeps coming back up. I figure it's something with my firewall (I use Zone Alarm Pro) & fiddle with it for what seems like hours. I finally give up & email ebay telling them my problem. Well, ebay emails me back & says, "yes it's something with your firewall & others have had this problem". Thanks so much ebay. What a help you've been. So, I have to go to the library & I use their computer to get on & of course no problem. I bid on the item & come home. I try to get on ebay again & same thing; the login screen just keeps reappearing. So, I take the drastic step of shutting down Zone Alarm & that doesn't even help. I still can't get passed the login screen. Someone mentioned that Service Pack 2 also has some kind of firewall & maybe that is it. So, I have spent forever searching & can't find anything that might be a firewall in Service Pack 2. I use W2000 Pro.

I know this is probably pretty obscure, but it's driving me nuts. I can join in forum I want, visit any web site I want from my own computer, but not ebay. I can log on to ebay from another computer but not my own.

Anyhoo, I love this forum & read all the suggestions & have learned a lot from you all. I never post because obviously I never have any solutions but do take all the good advice.

best.

2. if it was a cookie problem w/ zone alarm
Edited on Mon Mar-07-05 07:56 PM by wakemeupwhenitsover
when I shut it down entirely wouldn't that have solved the issue? I'm thinking I should have been able to get on ebay if I shut down the firewall & zone alarm was the problem.

I tried to follow their discussion & got totaly lost. Maybe because I'm too ignorant or maybe because they're talking about version 5.5 & I have 4.5.

5. I use netscape & I've set it to accept all
cookies from ebay. All other sites are based on privacy settings but I've marked it so ebay can set all cookies.

About the first thing I did when I couldn't get passed the login screen was delete all cookies from ebay, clear the cache, reset to accept cookies & start again. Still no luck. I

8. oops, sorry!
I was so frustrated.

You're right it was cookies, only cookies in netscape. I had netscape set to 'accept cookies from this site' meaning ebay, but I guess that wasn't good enough. I had to lower my level of cookies in the advanced feature under preferences to 'high' instead of 'custom'. It wasn't zone alarm or avg or anything else, just netscape.

I'm so sorry I didn't post this last night; I was screaming mad at the computer, trying to bake bread & getting ready for a visit. Anyhoo, your tips did lead me in the right direction. I can't remember now which link you provided got my brain working, but thanks!
