Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 11:26 PM by amerikat
3/5/05..........I know that it is thursday........how can this be? If I have to recite numbers to some person in Bangalore India, one more time I'm gonna bang my head on the desk.

1. can't you just reset your clock ??
if you double-click the clock in the system tray, you should be able to reset the date and the time as needed ...

no idea why your clock is wrong but it should be easy to fix ...

5. what am i missing here ??
in your BP, you wrote: windows xp tells me it Saturday 3/5/05

isn't 3/5/05 a saturday ?? it seems like the month, day and year your clock shows DOES match the correct day of the week ... if today is 3/3/05, a thursday, then 3/5/05 would be a saturday ...

i'm not doubting you're having a problem but i'm not clear what symptoms you're describing ...

let me ask you this, are you able to change the date on your system at all (even to a bogus date)? if not, i wonder if you have a virus or some spyware running ...

12. OK ... last try ...
you wrote: windows xp tells me it Saturday 3/5/05

the question i have is: exactly what does your clock say ?? if your clock says it's Saturday 3/5/05 (which is what you said in your BP), then the day of the week correctly matches the date (because 3/5/05 is indeed a Saturday) but your clock is just off by two days ...

i used to run a clock sync program ... no idea if this would help the situation you have but it might be worth a try ... here's the link:

6. Thats what the link is about
if you scroll down
In order for Windows Update to function properly, your computer's date needs to be set correctly. Before running Windows Update for the first time, check your computer's date setting to be sure it's accurate.

10.  Have you checked the system battery?

Don't know if it's losing time, but if it is the battery will need replacing.

Of course, I solved all my windows troubles by getting a mac. I know that doesn't help you, but after so many years of frustration with windows I'd reached the tipping point. And I have absolutely no regrets.

13. My big shock after switching....

....was looking at the closet full of software that I no longer need, and the dollars that they represent. Antivirus, system utilities, antispam, etc., etc., etc. There was some big bucks tied up there.

I will no longer support the many industries surrounding windose. They can get along well enough without my donations.

14. Are you a technotard, too
I've purposely stayed away from the computer and the net for stubborn reasons, I thought if I ignored it, it would go away. I can't even type. Now, I've found a reason to care. A lot of what goes on in DU has been going around in my head for the last 4 years. No, idea about the buddy list or putting someone on ignore. I'm a blog dork.

15. Here are some tips:
To put someone on ignore, just click the "sleeping icon" at the top of the post. To add someone to your buddy list, click the icon to the left of the sleeping icon. If you slowly pass your cursor over the icons, some text will pop up explaining them.

If you change your mind, go to "Options" at the top of any forum and you can take people off your buddy or ignore lists, as well as a bunch of other things.

Whenever you have a question, come here and ask or ask in the Lounge for a quicker response.

So glad you found us! Four years is a long time to wander around alone! :D

17. Have you tried ...

Double-clicking on the time in the bottom right corner of the task bar and changing the date to the correct one?

Like others, I'm very confused about the problem. All I can tell from your description of the problem is that your date is set incorrectly. That can happen, but you can change this quite easily.

18. I use my clock as a quick calendar and I accidentally reset it once.
I kept getting "expired certificate" error messages on various sites that wouldn't let me logon and then I finally discovered what I had done!

19. Once again
proving windoze xp is a POS. I refuse to use anything but 98 or 2000 if I'm using windoze(I have some things that won't work right under SuSe Linux 9). i'm used to their bugs and know how to work around them. Don't want automatic update because it has NEVER failed to screw something up. My main beef with XP is I don't like being snooped on.
